I was disappointed with this cafe when I went here for lunch with a friend. The food was ok but not particularly inspiring. The service was slow which made things seem a bit downbeat. The thing that really irked was that there were faded flowers in all the vases. Not just past their best but totally had it. I applaud... More

We've been to Nikau several times on visits to Wellington but this time it didn't live up to its normal standard. The menu was quite frankly boring. The cabinet goodies did look nice if you wanted those for breakfast. I had scrambled eggs that for the price were messily and undercooked and of watery substance. Plus having to pay extra... More

Loved the food, even just for a morning coffee and scone, lunch is fresh and varied. Inside or outside seating. Right in the middle of the Town Halls, Art Gallery, Civic Square and a hop skip and a jump away from the waterfront esplanade.

I will be back again and again. Everything sings with flavour and passion. These people are foodies with a heart for the food industry. Everyone at our table enjoyed every mouthful. Gently seasoned, delicious combinations. Great balance in all dishes. The kedgeree is as good as it ever was. Soothing and digestible.

Can't imagine life without Nikau. We come here regularly, as do so many Wellingtonians. If you want a truly Wellington cafe experience you can't go wrong. Lunches are really busy but on a good day the outdoor seating area copes with the swelling numbers (on one of Wellington's rare ;) bad days get there early before the office lunchers if... More

Our latest visit to Nikau was a little haphazard. The service was very slow and we ended up going to the counter to order but as we were on holiday and time was not an issue this wasn't a big deal for us. We chose the daily special of a corn fritter and were very glad we did. The three... More

I can recommend the breakfast - delicious choices and good coffee, service was efficient without feeling rushed. Nice central location and easy to find.

Very limited menu, ordinary food, snotty staff and too expensive for what it is. Seriously, there are so many better cafes in town. Go for a two minute walk to Finc, for example. My heart always sinks when a friend suggests going to Nikau.

Great breakfast menu...!! Will keep dreaming on the pancakes with Apple maple and rhubarb porridge.. Perfect scrambled eggs, all organic, local, fantastic coffee, god, loved this place. Nice, friendly service and great space.
