Good but not great

Good location on the harbour front. Nice atmosphere and generally helpful polite staff. Some non individual seats are too low so make sure you get a chair. Good location on the harbour front. Nice atmosphere and generally helpful polite staff. Some non individual seats are too low so make sure you get a chair. Slightly disappointed with the balance of flavours with some food - unnecessarily over complicated - The assiette of seafood was very good but the tuna although well cooked had capers, tomatoes, mozzarello cheese... We tried to get in on Wednesday and Thursday 4 and 5 March, without booking in advance. Each time we were refused, although they had many 'open' tables. We were told to come back in 2 hours each time. Very arrogant. No way! We went to Foxglove next door, got a walk in table, spent over $200 on an nice... More

Our introduction was a bit shabby, the food was perfect in a master chefesque way and the coffee was served before the dessert Having said that .... what a cracking lunch we did have .... fresh oysters and seared tuna with Caesar salad .... yummy The staff were well trained .... well, apart from the stressed looking bar man and... Extremely popular waterside restaurant on Wellington Quay Side. Lovely setting, tables beautifully laid with quality linen & cutlery. Food very nicely presented but prices over the top. A small portion of warmed bread £4.50, caesar salad £9, seafood chowder, a small bowl £9, mains from £15 to £20 with veg & fries extra. At these prices I would have expected... More

I had family in town from overseas and wanted to treat them to a decent bit of Wellington, so it had to be somewhere on the water. Shed 5 took on board my request and ensured we had a window table - and closed one of the windows to spare my guests from the breeze! The food was very nice... More

I had dinner with colleagues at Shed 5 this week. Beautifully prepared roasted Sole, substituted for the listed Flounder because they only serve what's fresh in the market on the day. A degree of integrity that I really liked even though it might disappoint people who had their heart set on something that was unavailable. Or who couldn't eat the... More

Beautiful plates of fine dining food at family restaurant prices! Have been here a couple times now and my expectations have always been exceeded. So fresh, great flavours and textures, great wine, excellent service, what more do I need to say? One of my favourite places to dine out in wellington. You wont be disappointed!
