It is with a heavy heart that I tell you Wellington has lost its best chef. We are just lucky that Paul Hoather has hit a purple patch and is sliding into his place.

We booked for my wife's birthday. We hadn't been there for over six years. It was a real pleasure to be treated in such a respectful manner - friendly but not familiar; polite but not smarmy. The food was first class. We have dined in some highly reputable restaurants, and the food at Martin Bosley's was absolutely one of the... More

Our Wellingtonian friend who is a real foodie booked the restaurant for us, opportunity to be proud and showcase his country's food talents and beautiful harbour. We walked in and I thought I was in the wrong place. Front of house were appalling, did not feel welcomed, no one smiled or showed much interest. Maitre'd was not welcoming, yawned behind... More

I thought I'd have a nice seafood lunch! And indeed it was far more than just good and nice. Martin Bosley's served one of the best seafood lunches I've ever had! It was superb. The restaurant is not large, a mere 15 tables or so. Reception was friendly, forthright and efficient. Nice table with requisite linens, good settings etc., and... More

We are not Wellingtonians: we have long looked forward to going to this restaurant, and when the opportunity came to try for the first time, we made the booking for the fish and chip specialty on Sunday evening. View: magnificent One meager bread roll: plates whipped away before we could ask for another Fish in batter: delicious Chips: slightly undercooked... More

My sister and her partner on a weekend away from ChCh shouted us to Saturday evening meal here which we thought was generous as we knew it was pricey. The bread rolls were like concrete and actually took some effort to prise apart - the waiter apologising and telling us they had no other bread that night. My beer battered... More

Enjoying a wonderful vista of Wellington Harbour, with rarely used outdoor seating, MB's enjoys a great location. It's hard to avoid the idea that it trades rather heavily on this. Our lunch was good but hard to justify in terms of price. $33 for (a very nice) fish and chips; $39 for a rather plain planxa-grilled gurnard with trimmings didn't... More

We had dinner at Martin Bosley's during our day in Wellington. Having spent a few days in NZ eating purely meat, we really felt like seafood. Even though the restaurant was fully booked, we managed to have dinner at the bar and enjoy the wonderful shellfish that can be had in Wellington. Martin was a gracious host and really able... More

I'd been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for over a year so admittedly I had high expectations because I had heard good reviews. It may have been an off night on my visit but I was disappointed with the service. I got the impression that because we had not booked ahead we were an inconvenience when we walked through... More

I dined here recently with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday - and I was impressed. We'd been for the Sunday night fish and chips, but this was the first time I'd been for a more formal dinner. We had the degustation dinner, and it was just glorious. The presentation, the quality of the meals were top notch.... More
