My work team came here for breakfast (approx 15 people). Leuven provided us with a private room, which worked out great. We could all sit around one table. Coffees were very good, and the food was pretty good too. My only complaint was that the eggs on my eggs benedict were overcooked (to the point of resembling hardboiled eggs). But... More

You don't have to go to Europe to experience an excellent Belgium experience, just pop into the Leuven they mussels and cheese platters are delicious not to mention their selection of Belgian beers.

Staff are friendly and generally alert: we moved location between ordering wine and receiving it, but the wine found us anyway. But the food was very ordinary. The herring was scant and lacked flavour; the mussels were tough, and a sign of their lack of character was that two of us were given the wrong choices and didn't realise this... More

After a month in New Zealand this came as a welcome escape into a relaxed European bar-café life with a good range of beers, good and unpretentious food, welcoming staff (mainly also travelling to see the world) and an atmosphere that encourage conversation.

Leuven is an authentic Belgian (Flemish) bar-cafe located in downtown Wellington, convenient to the top tourist attractions, major hotels and shops. The atmosphere is similar to numerous bar-cafes in northern Belgium and the food is prepared with skill. This is not haute-cuisine, but standard Belgian fare (mussels, waterzooi, frites, waffles) very well done. As you would expect, the beer list... More

This is one of those Belgian bars with a beer list that reads like a book. A book of awesomeness. They have a wonderful, huge selection of Belgian brews that makes this worth any trip. We also had dinner - mussels and waterzooi. The mussels, which are their specialty, were dry and tough, which was disappointing (other mussels we ate... More

I really like Leuven. I've been going there for years and have had so many wonderful eating and drinking experiences. I'd have to say that the lamb salad is one of my favourites. Healthy, light, and filling. Of course the mussels are good too. And of course it's well known that the fries are the best in Wellington. I also... More

Have been to Leuven twice in the last month and food is excellent. Disappointing last night to get the seafood which goes for almost $34 and was a bit let down with quantity. Beer was great - try the Leffe Brun!! Waitresses all friendly, nice atmosphere inside too but can get noisy.

Greeted by three different waitresses after being seated by the maitre'd we were then hurried into ordering, and the waitress couldn't answer our questions about the wine. Food arrived quickly enough but the grilled mussels were cold and the garlic aioli was in fact mayonnaise. They offered to bring a new plate of mussels but just reheated the original dish.... More
