A pleasant place for brunch in the sun

Karaka is in a wonderful location, overlooking an inner city lagoon. It's a cafe with a relaxed, local style. The food is pretty much what you'd find in any place around town. It's okay, but there is nothing that stands out on the menu as 'stand out.' They were busy when we visited on Sunday and... read more

Waited 45 mins for lunch. It arrived with no apology, explanation or cutlery. Waiter said he'd be back with some but never came back so I went and grabbed some myself. Was told while paying that they were one chef done so struggling to get orders out. Didn't inform us of this (or the expected wait time for food) while... More

After attending the Wellington farmers Market on Sunday, Elizabeth and I decided that we would have lunch at the Karaka café - hoping that we would be treated to some traditional Maori fare. We were pleasantly greeted at the door, given a menu and told to find a table - this was the start of some rather erratic service. The... More

We loved being greeted in Te Reo (Maori language) as well as English. The fish croquettes with Paprika Aioli were lovely. It's great that their menu reflects Maori cuisine. Amongst all the regular cafe fare, you can order a Hangi for 4, and meals that are served with Horopito mash.... Stunning! The staff were friendly and the service was great.... More

Was a busy Sunday. After 45 min wait we were told they forgot our order. Not even did we receive our 2 drinks. They apologized brought the 2 drinks and said they are on the house which was decent. 30 min later still no food. Time 2.30 and the outside area was nearly empty lunchtime crowd gone. At that stage... More

Fantastic staff and fast service is all that needs to be said about this place. Sitting in the sunshine either in the beanbags or at an outside table and having a glass or bottle of wine and some nibbles you can't go wrong.

We're visiting Wellington for the weekend. Dropped in by chance and enjoyed it so much we went back again today and will probably go again before we leave. The staff are attentive and friendly. The wine was great and the cheese was delicious. Awesome view and relaxing environment.

Went there for early lunch with 4 friends off the Radiance of the Seas on a brief visit to Wellington. Coffee took ages and was luke warm. Waitress brought dirty cutlery. When querying what "putanesca" meant she thought it was tomatoes. (Tomato, capers, anchovy, chilli, olives actually). When meals finally arrived she had to be called back to get bread... More

Lovely sunny day when we went for lunch but as it took almost 30 minutes for our order to be taken just had a piece of lovely chocolate cake. Tea hot and flavorsome and as drink earl grey with out milk that is good. If you have plenty of time a good place to go.

This café was absolutely packed on a sunny afternoon in Wellington which is always a good sign. Our group of 8 friends managed to find a seat inside which was still pleasantly sunny. There was a good selection of food for a late lunch-everyone was very happy with their choices. I had eggs benedict with advocado and spinach which was... More
