Disappointment

Went there for early lunch with 4 friends off the Radiance of the Seas on a brief visit to Wellington. Coffee took ages and was luke warm. Waitress brought dirty cutlery. When querying what "putanesca" meant she thought it was tomatoes. (Tomato, capers, anchovy, chilli, olives actually). When meals... read more

Lovely sunny day when we went for lunch but as it took almost 30 minutes for our order to be taken just had a piece of lovely chocolate cake. Tea hot and flavorsome and as drink earl grey with out milk that is good. If you have plenty of time a good place to go.

This café was absolutely packed on a sunny afternoon in Wellington which is always a good sign. Our group of 8 friends managed to find a seat inside which was still pleasantly sunny. There was a good selection of food for a late lunch-everyone was very happy with their choices. I had eggs benedict with advocado and spinach which was... More

Waited a good half hour for a pie (yummy) and cauliflour cheese balls (bland and tasteless). Odd mixture of food - the pie (mince and cheese) was good but so big my son and husband shared it. Cheese platter $25. Fantastic location on beanbags in sun but need to sort out inefficient service. Also note the Google map location incorrect... More

After a hard week and a day-long seminar, we retreated to Karaka for drinks. A beautiful calm, clear autumnal day in Wellington, sitting outside in the late afternoon sun overlooking the lagoon, waka ama and rowing skiffs ,around a table fitting ten was a treat... the drinks almost forgotten. Almost! A wide range of wines and tap and bottled beers... More

We happened upon this cafe as it seemed to be the only cafe open before 10am on a Sunday, on the Wellington waterfront. We were pleasantly surprised at what was on offer here. I was excited to see a dish on the menu with Black Pudding in it! Although I didn't go for the breakfast dish as it was a... More

It was the folk outside on beanbags that drew our attention to Karaka - so we called in for a coffee. Very friendly and helpful staff - we ended up sitting at a table under an umbrella as it was too hot for us to try the beanbags (but plenty were). Good coffee the only negative was that because it... We loved the food and the service but more importantly the entertainment. Some of the best voices sitting around having a jam session. Ps the scenery of the water and kids splashing around and relaxed atmosphere topped off a great arvo.

With 3 Danish visitors, I was looking for authentic Maori food in Wellington. Here at the Karaka Cafe, right on the waterfront, with views over the lagoon, is the ideal spot. A shared hangi for 4 people cost just $65, and we needed a doggy-bag to take home what we couldn't finish! It included chicken, pork, kumara, pumpkin, zucchini, water-cress... More

After a visit to Te Papa on a hot day we dropped into Karaka for a coffee. It was great to see people just enjoying relaxing outside on beanbags and we were really impressed when a bottle of tap water and a couple of glasses were placed on our table without us asking. Then when the coffee arrived it was... More
