Location and good food

I think it made a difference that we had a reservation. We were seated immediately at the best table in the house. It was upstairs at an open window facing the marina in the harbor. Great views and a cool breeze wafted in. We had been in New Zealand for 5 days and had yet to eat their famous fish... read more

Choice no. 3 as they only had a fifteen minute as against a 45 minute wait in other places. In reality we were barely there five minutes before we were seated, still clutching our cocktails. Really lovely, friendly staff and maitre’d. Possibly, so far, the best meal we have had in NZ.

Perfect location overlooking the small marina. Great service. Fantastic food, well presented and cooked. Some unusual combinations that work. Meat and fish. Good choice of wine and beer. Prices are right for that special occasion.

About 30 family and friends gathered here for a recent family occasion and enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere beside sparkling blue water and fishing bats, great drinks service and excellent nibbles handed around by very attentive staff: prawns, raw oysters, tiny sausage rolls, deep-fried chicken nibbles and ditto squid rings. A few more seats would have been nice, but we were... More

This visit was a treat for our friends, and it looked just great. BUT! although we had booked a table, and were early [as requested] we had a really disappointing evening. The service was awful - a pretty girl minced around, but did nothing when asked! The food took over an hour to come; when it did appear, the 3... More

This is a great location on the waterfront with very good service. Good menu although we stuck with the traditional fish and chips which was very good..

Were a bit concerned as some of the reviews were critical of the service. We arrived for 7 and the device was fine despite being full. Scallops and Bluff oysters were both fantastic. Fish and chips were very generous portions and perfectly cooked. Catch of the day (John Dory) was perfectly cooked with an interesting sweetcorn dish and delicious slaw.... More

Our hotel recommended Dockside. The first night we tried to get in without a booking, and they were full, so we booked for another night. Our table, in a cosy corner upstairs, was in a great position to see everything happening on the harbour, and to look over the full sized sailboat inside the restaurant. Our servers were superb. We... More

I have just returned from having supper at the Dockside Restaurant and it was really excellent Having just seen some previous reviews, I can only assume it was a lucky break...or that the previous entries were due to Wellington being very busy for the cricket. Having failed to get a 'walk in table' the day before, I booked on line... More

We had a booking for 7.30pm on Valentine's night, and arrived on time. Our drink orders weren't taken until 7.50 when we ordered our food as well. Our entre did not arrive until 8.25 and our main did not arrive until 8.55. Yes it was busy but people who arrived after us were getting food before us. Our entre, the... More
