Great Service

We recently had dinner here and were very impressed with the service. Attentative staff who were not instrusive. It is definately a fine dining restaurant and the price reflects that. While our meals were very nice they were not mine blowingly good which they should be for the price. We have had a... read more

We recently visited the Restaurant with a view to holding a family function. The staff in the Restaurant were welcoming, invited us to sit and brought us water whilst they contacted the Function Organiser. When she arrived we talked over our requirements with her and she showed us the options available. We left with agreement that she would check the... More

The Hippopotamus is white tablecloth, French influenced, and, in my experience, Wellington's most expensive restaurant. But if you are feeling flush and in the mood to push the boat out, this place is the business. Have a cocktail first, or later, in Wellington's most louche lounge, which is on the same level as the restaurant proper. It's hard to describe,... More

I dined here for my birthday with my husband and the food was very elegantly presented, the decor was a bit over the top for my taste-very loud and extravagant. The service was amazingly attentive and professional. The flavour combinations were daring and somewhat lost and there were many different components to each dish which-even though very tasty-would not be... More

Hippopotamus is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, as a romantic spot with a view. The food is delicious and you can choose to have a wine matching also. Many of the staff speak both english and french (if you wish). A total gastronomic experience!

Very good food here. Good views. The service is somewhat flowery and quite expensive. You have to be in the mood and dress to impress to eat here.

My husband and I attended the Early Evening Dining session as we were attending the theatre later in the evening. It was a set menu of either two or three courses. We arrived and were seated straight away. The service was excellent, very attentive. The food arrived swiftly and was excellent. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking... Having stayed in the hotel, dining in the restaurant was an obvious choice. The very French food is certainly well executed! The wine list has some interesting and enjoyable by-the-glass options and service is attentive though forgetful - quick to offer service then forgotten to follow through. I'm a frequent visitor to the hotel and I find the richness and... More

Wonderful restaurant overall. Great food and great service. Had most of our meals at the restaurant whilst we stayed at the Museum Art Hotel for the three nights that we were there.
