We've enjoyed many meals at Capitol, it's a relaxed and friendly place, and the food is consistently great. The brunch options at weekends are really good and it's a really nice place for an evening meal. Staff are always attentive and the menu changes regularly, they always have interesting specials. Recommend it for any occasion.

This restaurant was very nice - the food, service and atmosphere very good. The waitress very friendly and helpful and the location of this restaurant was great for us as we were moored in the Chaffers Mariner

We stumbled across Capitol when we were looking for another restaurant we had read about in a Lonely Planet. Thank goodness we didn't find it. The meal here was AMAZING. Staff were beyond nice and not snooty at all. We ordered a lovely bottle of NZ wine ($40) and shared the boiled beetroot (with hazelnuts and delicious cheese) to share... More

Early dinner after drive down from Rotorua. We began with out of the ordinary aperitifs, caringly prepared. The wine list was interesting and extensive. I started with grilled beetroot, goats curd and roasted hazelnuts followed by blue warehou on a melted lemon, saffron and fennel base. Delicious. Busy and friendly service, glad we found it.

Capitol almost lived up to the expectations we had after it was recommendend to us by our Wellingtonian friends, and although the dishes we chose were very good (not excellent ) overall it worked out pretty expensive ($120 ) for a far from lavish meal and the wait between courses was interminable. The decor, being quite drab and monochromatic, did... More

As my son said very exclusive. Needed to translate the varied menu into his language. Some great service, staff "very " friendly. Had a nice family meal here.

Very nice cafe style of restaurant with amazing food. The service is good. Recommend to make a booking given that the restaurant is typically full. Expect c. 100 NZD for two people with a glass of wine.

Had a 3 courses dinner here, but the best memory I have of the main plate. It was a well prepared fish of excellent flavour called Blue Moki. When asking for some information the manager brought me a book about New Zealand's commercial fishing with an entry also about the Blue Moki (Latridopsis ciliaris). The waiter was friendly and professional... More

The food was lovely but the servings sadly on the small side, not just for me but for all - and there were a lot of us! We do all have 'healthy' appetites shall we say. The service was excellent, couldn't fault it at all.

Had an enjoyable dinner at Capitol during a brief stay in Wellington. I arrived early, so had no trouble getting a table, but by the time I left all the tables were occupied and people were waiting at the bar. Service was first class and food was very good. I had the ravioli with crayfish bisque, and the flavour of... More
