Superb! Welcome to Wellington!

Attentive wait staff that don't hover, sublime food options and the actual meal was even better than the description. Definitely a go-to location for that intimate dinner or suits a largish group like ours (Six). With an amazing view of downtown Courtenay Place it's smack bang in the middle of the... read more

We had planned to eat at Charley Noble but they were full to overflowing by 6p.m. on a Wednesday night, as were Ortega so we drifted down to Capitol. It had been some time since my last meal there and today was my Birthday and I wanted special. I got it. The duck was perfect with lightly cooked puy lentils... More

Capitol, like Ortega a few doors away, has a large and loyal following. For good reason. This is one of the handful of special restaurants in the Capital - the food is simple, bistro style, usually with a Mediteranean edge, perfectly cooked, attractive, interesting and occasionally brave. It is never fussy, dull or totally predictable. Whoever designs the menu has... More

Every time that we go to Capitol, I wonder why we don't go more often. The food is great. The wine a reasonable price. And the service attentive. The menu is relatively simple but constantly changing and there are normally 3-4 specials as well. We describe the food as 'fresh'. Great flavours but not overpowering and letting the food shine... On the advice of a business friend we went to this lovely restaurant, having phone the night before I spoke to Patrick who very nicely explained they don't take bookings but the time we suggested we would like to dine was not of concern to him and we were told that should there be no table available we could have... Came here because the restaurant across the street had a long wait. It was a Sunday afternoon and there weren't many customers, yet my order took a bit of time to arrive. Food and service was alright.

We've been before and were impressed enough to return. Don't be put off by the no reservation policy. They manage the tables very well and the food and drink are worth any short wait at the bar for a table. Saying that we've always been seated straight away. Very good food and service.

The food was lovely, the service was excellent - but the tables are very close together. Expect to make friends with those next door. Our neighbours were very friendly which was useful!

Our group of four thoroughly enjoyed our meals here recently. The menu choice is not huge but is well thought out. The food is interesting, and is beautifully cooked and presented. We had to wait for a table as it was a busy Saturday night and we did not have a booking. The wait was well worth it and we... More

Tired after a long flight we selected Capitol because it was a nice walk from our hotel. More expensive than our usual lunch choices but absolutely worth it. Stand out items were the fish pie, goat cheese souffle, and catch of the day. We also enjoyed our first toast with NZ sauvignon blanc.
