The original menu was a combination of comfort food, Kiwi classics and a few Lone Star originals. Some of these dishes from that first menu are still being served today and are as popular as ever. Dishes like the Lassoo of Hog, Dixie Chicken and the iconic Redneck Ribs prove that food fads come and go but good food never goes out of fashion. When you share a birthday with such luminaries as artist JB Priestley and writer Roald Dahl you know you're destined to be different. So it is with the Lone Star which opened its door at 26 Manchester St on September, 13th 1988 determined to create a different dining experience for the people of Christchurch.

Awkward!

When I requested a table for 1 I was shown an awkward little table in an awkward little corner reserved only for the awkward people who come and dine alone - apparently! When I declined the offer of said table I was told they were very busy this night & basically that was the best on offer! Good... read more

Went here supposedly for my sister's birthday celebration. She rang to book a table for 6 people but got thru answering machine which said they will ring her back to confirm but never did. She rang again and booked a table for 6:30PM. We got there at 6:50PM (Says Alex who talked to us when we got there) after looking... More

Hi Chowbells I've spoken with my managers about your visit and there seems to have been a real break down in communication in a number of areas. We do receive a number of calls during the day when we are closed with our message advising of the "Preferential Listing" system that all Lone Stars use. I unfortunately can't explain why... More

Hi Vicki I'm sorry that you felt awkward sitting at our little table # 1, as I'm sure you can appreciate with a restaurant setup some tables will always be more desirable than others. We do find that a lot of couple like this table as it is slightly more private. I'm glade you enjoyed your meal and drink and... More

This restaurant is popular for bigger groups and family dinners. The restaurant re-established its rustic atmosphere at the new location beautifully. The bar tucks around the corner and this entire venue is certainly a good place to have a good night out with friends or family. The service was very nice and friendly and the menu features hearty meals that... More

Went to Lone Star the other night with family for a birthday. It's been a few years since I've visited a Lone Star restaurant. Very happy with the service we received. The staff were very attentive and were great with the kids. While the meals weren't as big as I remember, they were cooked beautifully and were delicious.

I visited here twice in a month, the first time I had the apache fish,it was quite floury and the coleslaw a bit dry for my liking, my son had the kids fish and chips- he ate the chips but didnt eat his fish- thank goodness his meal was a rugby voucher prize. The second time I went there we... More

Hi Andrea Thanks for taking the time to review your two visits with us. I'm sorry that your son didn't like his fish after making a big effort to win a player of the day voucher, if you send me an email to trevord@lonestar.co.nz with your details I will arrange for him to get a replacement voucher. we were underwhelmed the last time we ate here, in the old location, and had hoped that it might be better this time. We acknowledge we were dining with a large group off the fixed menu, but it failed to hit the spot. The venue was clean, the service and staff were good, unfortunately it's not the Lone Star of... The food was great. Really enjoyed our meals and they were good portions. The only thing we didn't like was the lights were so dim you could hardly read the menu and hard to see what you were eating. The staff were very good and food fantastic!

Hi Charlene Thanks for your kind review, in regard to the lighting we do have it low to create atmosphere but maybe it was a little to low on the night you dined. Regards Trevor More

Our visit to Lone Star began with a friendly greeting right inside the door. The few minutes it took to get our table ready were pleasantly filled getting a drink from the friendly, attentive and efficient bartender. Once seated, our attention was grabbed by a mouthwatering menu which was difficult to choose from, because everything genuinely sounded good. We had... More
