Capers opened in October 2001 and has a passion to provide fresh quality food in an environment that caters equally well for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee to go or a take home meal. Stocking a wide range of both New Zealand and imported goodies including oils, rubs, preserves, chocolates, teas, balsamic vinegars, dressings, curry pastes, syrups, sauces along with Zarbo and Sabato products the Capers Specialty Foods Section appeals to the everyday home chef, gift hunter and the discerning foodie. Here at Capers making coffee is an art form and the way that coffee is made is distinctively different throughout the world. New Zealanders generally prefer a more milky mix than our classic European counterparts. We have developed our own recipes for the traditional coffees sold in New Zealand but ask us for your favourites – we will know how to make it. The FREDS (Freshly Roasted Every Day) coffee used at Capers contains A Grade PNG, Colombian Excelso (medellin) and Kenyan AA.Children love to escape to the playroom to explore some of the interactive toys attached to the wall or be entertained by a series of (G) rated children’s videos. The Capers team have celebrated and been proud of their success in being named Rotorua Café of the Year in 2002 and 2003, Runner Up 2004, Cafe of the Year 2006 and 2007 and again in 2009. Keeping up with their prior success, Capers has been named, once again, Cafe of the Year 2011. Come in and try our winning formula of great food and superior staff.

popped in to check out the menu, stayed for coffee and wonderful cake. Lots of local restaurants in Eat Street but after coming back to our lovely hotel decided to stay in. As Capers to a take away service, husband went to see what was available. He came back with the most delicious chicken slouvaki....mmm, plenty of tender chicken with... More

Go for breakfast or brunch. Their Eggs Benedict is truly fantastic and their coffee, especially the macchiato, is sublime. The staff are always lovely and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit. We usually take the grandchildren and they have a super crèche room complete with DVD player, so the adults can enjoy their food.

We had breakfast here. Fantastic granola, good coffee. Order at the counter, food is delivered to your table. Good concept and great pure tastes and products. A bit expensive though. Granola and yoghurt plus a little fruit is NZD 14,50. Compared to hotel-breakfast prices that's rather high priced.

Stopped by for lunch after taking the kids to a movie. I found it pricey for what we got. Kids serving of macaroni cheese almost $10; kids platter with very little real food almost $15, coffee $4:60 + $1 for extra shot. The coffee was good and so was the lemon tart but at $7 it has to be. There's... More

I visited capers for the second this week and I impressed both times. The cabinet food they have always looks amazing. I had the rolled pork roast which was yum and their peanut butter cheesecake was amazing. Already planning my next visit

Read the reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to have a meal here when we came to Rotorua. We came for brunch and had the Eggs Benedict and the Big Breakfast. Both meals were really good and coffee was equally good. They also have a selection of deli items that are ready to eat for either take-away or to dine-in.... More

Often go to this place for lunch or the occasional cup of coffee. Friendly staff, good seating, great atmosphere, this place is always buzzing and it is so convenient if you are in town shopping. The selection is varied and I can assure you there will be something you will like. Prices are competitive and the COFFEE is great.

One thing about this place - if you ask for extra hot coffee, you get it! Their food isn't bad either. They cater for most tastes and diets - from those who are watching their waistlines to those who choose to indulge. I really enjoy the seafood chowder - very nice. Staff are friendly, the atmosphere is inviting and the... More
