Capers opened in October 2001 and has a passion to provide fresh quality food in an environment that caters equally well for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee to go or a take home meal. Stocking a wide range of both New Zealand and imported goodies including oils, rubs, preserves, chocolates, teas, balsamic vinegars, dressings, curry pastes, syrups, sauces along with Zarbo and Sabato products the Capers Specialty Foods Section appeals to the everyday home chef, gift hunter and the discerning foodie. Here at Capers making coffee is an art form and the way that coffee is made is distinctively different throughout the world. New Zealanders generally prefer a more milky mix than our classic European counterparts. We have developed our own recipes for the traditional coffees sold in New Zealand but ask us for your favourites – we will know how to make it. The FREDS (Freshly Roasted Every Day) coffee used at Capers contains A Grade PNG, Colombian Excelso (medellin) and Kenyan AA.Children love to escape to the playroom to explore some of the interactive toys attached to the wall or be entertained by a series of (G) rated children’s videos. The Capers team have celebrated and been proud of their success in being named Rotorua Café of the Year in 2002 and 2003, Runner Up 2004, Cafe of the Year 2006 and 2007 and again in 2009. Keeping up with their prior success, Capers has been named, once again, Cafe of the Year 2011. Come in and try our winning formula of great food and superior staff.

Fantastic Restaurant

A group of us including 3 young children visited last week for breakfast and man can i just say what a well thought and well presented restaurant it was. I have never experienced a self service restaurant and not felt like it was rude or lazy of the cafe until now. It worked for this restaurant so... read more

The food was so good we ate 3 out of the 4 meals we ate in Rotorua at Capers. They specialize in breakfast, but our dinner here was top notch.

The menu here is the closest to giving me some North America options. For eggs, I have found eggs Benedict is your best option. They did a good job with theirs here. Also I was able to get a fruit plate, and it was varied and flavorful. Pretty busy with the locals and that is always a good sigh too.... More

Menu is limited and a little more pricey than other restaurants in the area. The food was good, nothing spectacular. It also took a long time for the food to come out. Would not recommend sitting down if you are in a hurry, instead pick something from the counter and go.

Been here once, I thought the bacon and eggs as well as the surroundings were bland, food was pricey, coffee was fair

We had dinner at Capers on the advice of our B&B landlady and we could not fault the food or the service. You can choose from the menu or the "cabinet" and the puddings are to die for. We both had the Scotch fillet which was cooked to perfection. The bill for two mains, two puddings, a ginger beer and... More

Pancake Sunday got us two whopper thick pancakes, bacon, maple syrup and a side of fruit. Fast to arrive, friendly service, and happy they had soy milk although the coffee was on the weak side.

Capers is an extremely great place to go to, we are there on a regular basis as the food is just lovely and fresh and beautifully presented, but I have to say the staff especially Caroline is absolutely fabulous, she is one of the reasons we continually go back as her friendliness and professionalism is second to none, Making customers... Ok so first up the service is always friendly and efficient, and yes there is a large selection of cabinet food plus a menu. In the past when I have had something from the savoury cabinet it is tasty and always very filling. I often get cake to take away or to take to someone’s house for afternoon tea and... More
