Capers opened in October 2001 and has a passion to provide fresh quality food in an environment that caters equally well for breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee to go or a take home meal. Stocking a wide range of both New Zealand and imported goodies including oils, rubs, preserves, chocolates, teas, balsamic vinegars, dressings, curry pastes, syrups, sauces along with Zarbo and Sabato products the Capers Specialty Foods Section appeals to the everyday home chef, gift hunter and the discerning foodie. Here at Capers making coffee is an art form and the way that coffee is made is distinctively different throughout the world. New Zealanders generally prefer a more milky mix than our classic European counterparts. We have developed our own recipes for the traditional coffees sold in New Zealand but ask us for your favourites – we will know how to make it. The FREDS (Freshly Roasted Every Day) coffee used at Capers contains A Grade PNG, Colombian Excelso (medellin) and Kenyan AA.Children love to escape to the playroom to explore some of the interactive toys attached to the wall or be entertained by a series of (G) rated children’s videos. The Capers team have celebrated and been proud of their success in being named Rotorua Café of the Year in 2002 and 2003, Runner Up 2004, Cafe of the Year 2006 and 2007 and again in 2009. Keeping up with their prior success, Capers has been named, once again, Cafe of the Year 2011. Come in and try our winning formula of great food and superior staff.

Good quality food and service

We are here in the early evening as they close at 9pm.We shared a large salad starter and my wife had a main of duck and I had venison. All dishes were nicely presented and cooked to perfection. Selection of wines was inexpensive and good quality.Service also good and attentive.

Love this eatery. This has all the healthy options. Breakfast is on offer until 2.00 pm. Dinner from 2.00 until 9.00 pm. The staff are very helpful. When one of our meals was delayed, we were offered a salad while we waited. Having a late lunch or an early dinner was no problem. Then came the best coffee since we... More

I often purchase from the cabinet as I work a couple of minutes away. I love the different rolls and wraps, although pricey, they're always delicious. Coffee is good. The cakes are definitely hit or miss. The service is usually good, very fast paced, although I did experience rather poor service recently when the lady at the counter finished serving... More

Capers is probably the best place for breakfast in Rotorua especially if you want fast and efficient service. We had a few breakfasts over the festive season. My favourite is poached egg on ciabatta, you can ask for a basic breakfast. You dont have to have eggs benedict, raw egg is not my cup of tea, risk of contracting food... More

Great service (I always ask for changes to the menu and nothing's too much trouble), great coffee, great breakfast menu and cabinet, free WIFI, newspapers and magazines to read and a great little foodie gift area. Been a number of times and never been disappointed with the food or coffee.

We had breakfast at Capers. Staffs are not friendly. No one is welcoming/ helping us and we had to find our own table. Food is good. They have kids corner which is equipped with tv and some toys. I will give 5 stars if staffs have some smiles.

We ate here on recommendation from our homestay hosts. I had steak and my partner had venison. Both meals were delicious. The service was excellent and a good wine choice.

We had dinner here with friends from the UK and to make the experience even better we each had a $50 voucher which included two mains & two glasses of wine, so very good value. All meals were delicious and presented well. I had the salmon which was served with lots of fresh summer veges so I was smacking my... More

We have "done coffee and brunch" here several times, the coffee is the best we've found in Rotorua and the eats tasty - the Eggs Benedict is superb with 3 eggs :) But this time we had dinner. All 4 mains received were restaurant quality, (as opposed to day cafe), and were especially good value with the discount coupons we... More

We stopped here for breakfast on the basis of some great reviews, great choice! The staff were really friendly, service was great and there are so many options on the menu that making a choice is hard. Atmosphere is nice, it feels friendly and warm inside with plenty of space plus a kids play area off to the side which... More
