As an ex sales rep I had often visited Oppies for an evening meal takeaway. On this occasion I had friends from the U.S and was trying to give them a Kiwi experience,so we all ordered Fish and Chips etc and had some cold beers pre purchased and sat outside on the benches and tables provided. My guests loved the freshly cooked... We had heard great things about the fish and chips here so decided it would be a good easy holiday meal. The fish was really fresh and it was good to have a choice of variety (we chose one of each on offer); we opted for the extra cost to have it crumbed so can't comment on their batter. Fish... More

The chips here are clearly not made on the premise. In fact i suspect they are a commercial brand based on the McCains advertising on the front of the shop. The potato is a high starch potato that has been used because it can be pre-cooked and frozen for later use. No fish and chip shop worth its salt (pun... More

Ate here in late December 2014. Fresh fish well cooked and very tasty. Good value and a great change from "other fast foods"!

If u have a family, give this place a try for a yummy cheap meal. Get takeaway and head to a park as eating in lacks atmosphere. There were loads of Chinese people there eating the Chinese ( good sign) and my duck w noodle soup was huge and very nice. My husbands duck w rice and veggies was great... More

I'm a New Zealander and these fish and chips are most definitely not the best you will ever have. They are very very sub standard. Expensive, soggy very average chips and okay fish. Don't waste your money...believe me, the hype is just hype.

Oppies was a five minute walk from my hostel, and I read about their fish and chips in the travel guides. I saw that it was sweet deal to, $9 I think it was. And the portions were huge. I thought it was delicious. The service was very good, and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Once I have a... More

The Chinese foods there are already changed to cater for the tastes of local people. We ordered noodles and just found too many flavorings have been added which caused us thirsty the whole night!

We went to Oppies on a weeknight during the holidays and ended up waiting 60 mins for 2 pieces of fish and a scoop of chips. I'm not sure how there ordering system worked as I heard a load of numbers called out that were ordered after mine. I was fairly unhappy with the time it took to make such... More

We got the mixed seafood plate...calamari and crab stick were just average...fish and chips were pretty tasty and comparable to most decent fish & chips joints...the mussel was my favorite...you can really taste the freshness...solid fried seafood option
