On the lake side of the community Soundshell building. We were there on Sunday, when the markets were on, so not sure how often it's open other than Sundays. It's like a bistro where you take a tray and select the slices, sandwiches etc from the slide-glass cabinets - like a Country Women's kitchen. Then you order your drinks - my BOWL of latte was fantastic. We sat at tables just inside the glass looking out, across Lake Rotorua but the tables outside were popular too. Very reasonable, great food...all the locals seemed to be there!

Not as a bad as previous reviews

As part of our private tour of Rotorua from our cruise ship, we stopped here for what turned out to be a late lunch. It wasn't as a bad as previous reviews had lead me to believe. Turned up for lunch on a Wednesday and the service was very poor, Prices were UN clear and there we no hot food to choose from, the cakes looked UN appatosing. My mum has trouble getting up stairs as she has a disability and well it didn't help that there was no ramp or anything for wheel chairs. I went... More

Given the absolute lakefront location of the Lakeside Cafe, on the lake corniche and close to both the lake cruises pier and St Faiths Church, this cafe should be in the perfect spot to provide a great relaxed dining experience, but it fails pretty miserably. Service is very average, the cabinet food is unappealing and expensive and looks like something... More

A group of about twelve of us arrived here on a rainy afternoon as part of a tour. We queued for ages for service, and when we did get served it was with reluctance. The tables were covered with used dishes, and we had to clear some to one side to find a space. Not a place I would wish... More

We specially went here because we saw it advertised. Wasn't that impressed. There weren't many people there and the service was very slow. Would hate to think what it would be like if it was busy.

We stumbled across this cafe today and as it were in a good location we thought we'd give it a go. To be honest first impressions weren't great. The cafe was full and people dotted themselves everywhere as the layout of the food didn't seem the best and it was hard to know where the queue started. I didn't think... More

The staff were really rude when my daughter asked if something on the menu was gluten free, not what she wanted after just being diagnosed with celiacs! The food took ages to come out and staff seemed disinterested in customers. Food not upto standard when it eventually arrived

A place time has passed by. Average coffee, a selection of OK cakes and staff that are pretty uncommunicative and you need to shout to get them to come from where they are around the back to serve you. Good view of lake and nice seating

An early afternoon at the Lakeside Cafe in Rotorua was disappointing for several reasons. The anticipation built up by arriving at this wonderfully positioned cafe on the lakefront, with paddleboat majestically and slowly traversing the lake, was not delivered on entry. Despite the still early time, there was virtually no precooked 'fast food' available and when two of our party... More

Top location and were charged top prices as well but the food did not get a top rating. It seemed very bland which was a shame when the surroundings are just so beautiful, right on the lake front and the park close by. I am afraid I will not be back again.
