Lakeside Cafe

Soundshell, Lakefront Drive, Rotorua, New Zealand
Improve this listing
Ranked #107 of 150 Restaurants in Rotorua
Cuisines: Coffee Shop
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch
Description: On the lake side of the community Soundshell building. We were there on Sunday, when the markets were on, so not sure how often it's open other than Sundays. It's like a bistro where you take a tray and select the slices, sandwiches etc from the slide-glass cabinets - like a Country Women's kitchen. Then you order your drinks - my BOWL of latte was fantastic. We sat at tables just inside the glass looking out, across Lake Rotorua but the tables outside were popular too. Very reasonable, great food...all the locals seemed to be there!

I have never been expected to pay $7.00 for a 1 filling toasted sandwich or $9.00 for 2 cups of tea. I felt embarrased to be a Kiwi as it felt like this cafe was aimed at ripping off tourists. The food was average to say the best but the prices were ridiculous. I would never go back.

There is a nice walkway along the edge of Lake Rotorua and, as part of this spectacular vista sits the Lakeside Cafe. With a very nice (and good size deck and equally charming indoor seating the Cafe offers a very pleasant place to sit and take in the wonders that form Rotorua. We stopped for snacks and founds there to... More

We shared a big breakfast and there was more than enough for two. Both eggs were double-yolkers. A big area catering for groups, but the wait was not too long. Only drawback was we couldn't sit outside because of the smokers.

Overpriced, well and truly due for a refurb, the live music.... Should have bought an elevator music disc, would have been 100 times better.

We had morning tea with plenty on offer. Choose from pre made or cooked to order. We managed a window seat which gave a glorious view across the lake. There was an experienced jazz saxophonist to serenade the morning away. Nice atmosphere. Great coffee.

Staff didn't smile, and charged me incorrectly when they realized this they didnt apologize ordered a cappuccino but was more like a flat white with chocolate on top. Two skinny slices of cake $13.00 obviously bought in. Resting on their laurels because of their location I think. It's a shame because it's quite a nice place.

Great location. Didn't try the cooked in the kitchen section. But the other food on offer was quite boring. Had a sandwich and muffin. Quite commercial and typical of something usually bought in. With its location and better food it could be a great spot. Didn't bother with a coffee as overheard and observed someone putting extra sugar in as... More

Had soup , a sandwich and what we thought was labelled a Banofee but ended up tasting more like a cheesecake. Maybe the desserts had been moved . The soup was a bit insipid and needed seasoning. Not totally bland but that word came up in our discussion. Nice location but food ordinary and prices a bit high as well.... More

I would not ever return to this restaurant. First of all the prices were not clearly visible for customers - I do not expect to ask for prices of each item, I purchased hot food to take away, then had to wait 10 minutes for my coffee. Worse still I was not told at time of ordering that there was... More

Came across this Cafe while doing a morning walk along the Lakefront. Had worked up a bit of an appetite and after looking at the cabinet food which looked great decided on a cooked breakfast. It was delicious and the serving was very generous, we like really good coffee and we certainly got it. The staff were very friendly and... More
