Value for money: nice Chinese food with fresh oysters buffet

In Mar, I went to New Zealand with my husband and we found that it's not easy to find fresh oysters in restaurants at the Bay of Islands. And the motel recommended us to King Wah. As a tourist from Hong Kong, I can guarantee that their food is very HongKong style with good taste. The spring rolls... read more

We dropped off some snapper and kingfish after being out fishing and the restaurant asked how we would like prepared and when we would like to eat. When we went back for supper we were greeted at the door and shown to our table. They prepared our kingfish 3 ways and snapper served whole. The food was delicious and beautifully... More

Looking for somewhere we came across this Chinese restaurant having a all-you-can-eat banquet so went for it. The place was pretty full and got fuller, especially with Chinese people, which I saw as a good sign. There was a good variety of food which my wife enjoyed, I am less enamoured by Chinese food. It seemed to be geared for... More

My partner and I ate here on Easter weekend. We should have turned around before we even sat down but gave the two waiting staff who blanked us whilst looking for a table the benefit of the doubt as it was busy. We were going to go for ala carte but opted for the buffet when the waitress couldn't answer... More

We were sent to this recommended restaurant by the guide who took us on a fishing charter. We walked there with our fresh fish and booked a 6.30 table for 4. We left it up to the chef to prepare our meal. All I can say is wow!!!! We ate like kings. The fish was to die for. Great service,... More

Totally awesome maitre d' dude seated us right next to the oysters and after six of the best I moved on to the home made spring rolls, won tons and dumplings with plenty of noodles, rice and veges to accompany them. After a second round of oysters we finished with some passion fruit cheese cake with fresh fruit salad and... More

At first unassuming, it was a very pleasant surprise of very tasty food and great service. From where we were sitting we could see girls cooking - clean, maticulous and with a smile

The fish and chips from the King Wah Takeaways are, in my opinion, possibly the best in NZ. For NZD$8.00 you get two decent sized pieces of beautifully cooked John Dory and a generous serving of chips. You can eat them there or take them away. What I think is special about their fish and chips is the consistent quality.... More

Found it by chance whilst exploring the back alleys of Paihia. I was attracted by the sign outside advertising Chinese Buffet for 27:50 dollars. They were more than happy for me to look around at what was on offer and I was pleasantly surprised to find that oysters and crayfish were part of the offering as were starters and desserts... More

We found King Wah much better value for money than some of the more touristy restaurants in Paihia. Food not super flash, but very tasty, satisfying and what we needed after two bad experiences. We paid $27.90 pp for a buffet, eat all you want meal and $1.50 per year of the kids ages.
