I took my Mum to celebrate her birthday, we enjoyed 6 beautiful courses, not to mention the little treat the waiter brought out prior to the meal. The surroundings are lovely, we loved the music playing outside as well as inside, the room was set out nicely, the tables were not too close and a roaring fire kept the temperature... More

I feel its a shame to write a bad review for Ormlie Lodge as its a awesome venue with great character and beautiful rooms that are warm and inviting, perfect atmosphere for a great dining experience.... Oh but how you'd be wrong... We came with friends for the first time and we there for the 6 course degustation which was... More

Nobody to greet us, had to go into dining room to find waitress. Seated immediately as we requested. If you like cats you will like this, one lying on the bar & another wandering around the dining area. It is a pleasant area & music was of a good level allowing conversation. For a higher level of dining, (Glass of... More

Valentines night was offered as 6 course degustation. It consisted of bread roll, lightly spiced cold soup, salmon on picklets, lime sorbet, aged steak and chocolate cake. This is NOT a degustation meal. It was set menu 4 courses. "Degustation is a culinary term meaning a careful, appreciative tasting of various foods and focusing on the gustatory system, the senses,... More

When a restaurant sets themselves up as offering “a unique dining experience”, then they simply MUST deliver. The Grande Villa Restaurant at Ormlie Lodge failed – big time! The service was virtually none existent – no one to greet guests so after 10 minutes we found a table ourselves; only two waitresses running round like headless chooks serving 24 tables.... More

What a shame such a Hawkes Bay iconic venue has deteriorated to this... Arrived for table on time and were seated immediately... Breads, entrees and main all served on top of each other and entire dinning experience complete in 30 mins. Despite us recognising there was a problem after our entrees arrived too rapidly and requesting that thing be slowed... More

We booked for an occasion dinner. The venue and ambience is just lovely. However, the service was slow, and the food not up to scratch, especially for the price. My rare steak was medium, and the cheesecake was icy as if it had just been defrosted.

We've been there for this Christmas Day: We had to book (OK, of course) and to pay in advance (OK, but a bit surprising ...). The service has been OK as well, friendly, but not very friendly. The food was good, in a good way very British, heeps of seafood and meat of good quality, the wine by the glass... More

Our first visit to Ormlie Lodge was very enjoyable, we went on a Wednesday night, so was very quite. A cat strolling through the lodge, a couple of large dogs asleep in the bar/lounge, felt very homely. Ormlie Lodge is a 110 yrs old, there is abit of information about the lodge on the wall in the bar, which is... More

We used to like to go to Ormilie Lodge for a special occasion. The last time we did this however we were very, very disappointed. We had made a booking and when we walked in we were shocked to see people eating in the foyer! Then when we presented ourselves for the time we booked they couldn't seat us. They... More
