If you have any kind of high blood pressure give the risotto here a miss. I thought I'd stumbled on a salt mine - couldn't eat it beyond a few mouthfuls. The chef should try eat a whole plate not just a sample. Maybe he made a mistake with my dish - I hope so. Also, don't try booking ahead.... More

Stumbled on Mr 'D' on a cold July afternoon while visiting Napier. Why can't more restaurants in regional centers be as innovative in creating their menus, as this restaurant does and still charge reasonable prices. When the choices are so good and the food so delicious who could quibble about the prices. After having coffee and a doughnut on the... More

The food is amazing, the carte very innovating, good size portions and reasonable prices regarding the quality. Special mention to wonderful tarte tatin : cooked to the perfection served with whipped cream and a superb vanilla cream ! a must !

You must try the donuts - they are to die for. Coffee and breakfast are execllent too. Great atmoshpere and seems to be popular with the locals which is always a good sign.

Enthusiaticly greeted and seated on arrival, the effusive waiter did everything with a flourish, maybe a bit too theatric considering it was only lunchtime. Menu had lots of attractive options, eventually I settled on squid ink fettucine with diamond shell clams. Simple, generous and delicious. T had the D-trio of pate, rillete and terrine, this was served with dried bread... More

Can't fault the food. Been here few times, for both lunch & dinner. Never been disappointed with the food. Well presented & very tasty. Service is another story, very inconsistent.

We stayed in Napier for several days and tried several other cafés before stumbling upon this one. What a find! This was the best coffee we have had in New Zealand. I cannot drink caffeinated coffee and only drink decaf. I also prefer the decaf to be by "Swiss water method" rather than the chemical method. Most baristas have no... More

If you want something special for the kids take them here for the donuts you inject with syringes full of chocolate, custard etc. Its different, maybe not something you do every day but that is what makes it special. Friendly waiters, waitresses and lovely environment.
