Good and Honest Food & Drinks. Worth Stopping For for a Refill and Refresh

There are not many coffee, food stops on the Napier-Taupo road so when we saw the signs we pulled in. Ok, so its not fancy but what it lacks in frills is more than made up for with Marie's friendly welcome and good food and coffee. Would have loved to sample more.... The home cooking, cakes etc... read more

Great place to take a break on the Napier - Taupo road. Heaps of parking. Cosy by the fire. Great friendly people. Great food and coffee. Overnight area for camper vans and caravans if you are travelling and want a stop over. Lots of history on the walls to read while waiting for your meal.

Had a mate tell us to stop in here for lunch - what a mistake. Should of carried on to the next cafe in Eskdale. Quiche, pie and sandwich were all not to my liking. Hardly a selection. Such a shame when it seems to have a pretty good spot!

I don't know how many times I have driven past this place. Today the car load needed toilets and this was close. Although public toilets are in the carpark, we decided to grab a bite as well. This place is in the middle of nowhere and the cafe choices reflected that. Not much to choose from. Pies all round was... More

...as its the only place for miles around and they charge what they like. It is located about halfway between and Taupo on the north island of New Zealand. We had 2 coffees, a sausage roll and a small lemon tart. The bill was about £10 and they even charged 20 pence for a sachet of tomato sauce.

This cafe seems the only place to stop for miles on the very picturesque Taupo Napier road.. Food was OK but the coffee although freshly made was bitter and awful, tasting like it had been left sitting at the bottom of a jug on a filter machine for hours. Our friend returned her cup only to be given another cup... More

Having been travelling in New Zealand for the past two months this is the first time I have been disappointed by a café. The cafe is really the only stopping off point on the Napier to Taupo drive and they took advantage of this by charging. The coffee was $4.60 for a small cup - there was no price list... More

What a neat place to visit. The place has been cleaned up and modernised with very good facilities. There is so much history of the Napier Taupo Road here that it leaves you in no doubt as to the bleakness and hardships that the earlier travellers were confronted with. The welcome we received was very warming and genuine from three... More

Was a pleasure to find this cafe on the Napier Taupo road. Very clean. Very happy friendly staff. Good range of food and excellent prices. Mince pies and date scones were just the best!! Definitely would go again and again
