Description: Metropolis Caffe has been a timeless gem in the heart of Hamilton CBD...
Metropolis Caffe has been a timeless gem in the heart of Hamilton CBD since 1991 serving breakfast, lunch, diners and out-caterings. It has been awarded multiple awards for the best cafe both locally and nationally. This place registered under Historic place trust of Hamilton, used to be known as 'Paul's Book Arcade' which was one of the 10th biggest books arcade at the time and relocated to this site in 1925 by William Paul, designed by Ernst Plischke. It's floor was covered by large black and white tiles in a chequer board pattern. This design was radically modern given the period and character of the small provincial town that Hamilton was at the time. Now, the only remains of Paul's Book Arcade appear to be a position of the black and white tiling, the street-front display cabinet and the mezzanine floor and stairs.

Long wait but enjoyable food

Shared a Sunday brunch at this café with my wife. The place was busy and this probably contributed to the 35 minute wait from ordering to receipt of our food. We enjoyed dining here as staff were very friendly and polite. The food was great and we would go back there again.

Food was excellent, coffee was divine. The tables are a bit oddly shaped and make it a bit u forgave but overall it was brilliant. Friendly service.

Heard great things about this place and met another couple for a Sunday early dinner. We were one of three when we arrived, and it was clear they just wanted us gone. Waitress asked for orders after we had been sat down for 30 seconds, then again a minute later - funnily enough it took 40 minutes to get our... More

We had breakfast with another couple. The restaurant was fairly quiet, the service very good, and certainly couldn't fault the food. Coffee good too! Very nice and would certainly return again.

We came for lunch and yes the atmosphere needs some work but we couldn't fault the service or the food. The pork belly had an Asian styled marinate which was unusual-but in a good way and the nachos were very addictive. The pork was supreme, succulent, juicy, melt in the mouth morsels. Pork belly is my go to dish and... More

Had brunch at metropolis as it had been a while since we had last visited. The place could do with a make over. There is no atmosphere, like soft music, nice lighting or even some heating, where we were sitting. It looked like the heater was out of order. My husband had the corn stack and I had the omelette. Both... More

A great place for a tasty and interesting breakfast, food is well presented and arrives in good time. A café with some character and easy to relax and enjoy the start to the day.
