What is a Freehouse you ask? In a nutshell, it is exactly that...A bar that is Free from Big Brewery influence. We pour what we want based on taste and customer feedback. We are not under any contracts with any brewery so we only stock the very best that NZ brewers have to offer. Welcome to the home of Craft Beer in Newmarket, Auckland! A cool and laid back bar, with 15 local brews on tap, playing sweet tunes, with ideas and concepts throughout the bar that are just a little bit crafty. From darts, to pool, to chalkboard tables that have tic tack toe (naughts and crosses) lines painted on them so you can challenge your mates, to coasters made from recycled beer boxes, it's all a little crafty. Kick back and try one of the largest craft beer selections Auckland has to offer. Conveniently located on the corner of Khyber Pass Road and Broadway in Newmarket, there is ample parking all around us in the many towers as well as plenty of street parking.

Dear reviewer, Although we appreciate all reviews about our establishment so that we can continue to improve, there are instances where we must take a stand. You see, for others reading this I shall make it very clear as to what this reviewer is actually talking about. This is not a review about food or beverage but about the service... More

Great location with outdoor seating. Chalk tables were cute but not practical. Food was fantastic, would recommend the chicken lettuce wraps. Service was appalling to the point where I would love to go back for the food but can't deal with the attitude of some of the staff.

We are absolutely horrified to hear that you had bad service, we pride ourselves on our service and so to receive this feedback is of a big concern to us. If you could advise what date you visited us so that we can investigate this further with the staff on duty that particular day. Our entire team have read this... More

Great outdoor spot for a few beers. Solid selection, delicious popcorn, and you can draw on the table. Would definitely return

Stupidly, we went shopping on Boxing Day, but amid all the furore involved with everyone trying to bag a bargain we found the Lumsden! Great craft beer, fantastic food, great service. Wouldn't even call the food "pub grub" as it caters for those wanting carbs and those needing to go without. Would recommend the lettuce wraps for sure! Looking forward... More

Next time your spouse is keen to make a shopping trip to Newmarket, see if you can bargain for lunch at The Lumsden- a brew pub near the corner of Khyber Pass and Broadway. Whilst the food is pretty darn good- it's not the main draw. The Lumsden is a free-house pub, not associated with any particular brewery and as... More

We called in for a meal and to get out of the rain. The waitress here is wonderfully friendly and hospitable. We ordered fish and chips and a burger. The fish and chips was Kawhai and when is freshly caught and cooked it is very very good. The burger was big and we'll flavoured. It was a good basic meal... More

Geez, chalkboard tables, cyclic beer menus, tasting paddles, great pub wine list and spirit selection, innovative bourbon tasting room, outdoor area and great snack/gastropub food. What more do you want. Really

Great selection of beer on tap and whilst we didn't have food there the pizzas and wings sounded delicious. We enjoyed a good pint on a sunny day outside.

We had lunch here with an family who had two children, one member of our group even had two beer tasting sampler trays, the food was excellent and varied, plenty of options for kids but plenty for the adventurous adult as well. The pricing was amazingly cheap. My guess would be mid week the place would be packed with workers... More

Good selection of beers on tap, both craft as well as the usual suspects. Plenty of seating in a pleasant and quiet environment
