Yummy but spicy!

Went here last night. Was a very nice and fulling meal. We had the "carrot" cake which is actually rice cake with a spicy char kuew tow sauce (I can't spell) and the chicken curry and roti canai. The only thing I can fault is the way the chefs laughed at our decision to get the carrot cake which... read more

When reviewed by the New Zealand Herald some years ago Selera romped in as a great 'no frills' cheap eat. Forget that! Fresh back from Singapore after a month away I was looking forward to another great dining experience. Phoned ahead for food. Two portions of Malaysian fried rice and a single portion of salt pepper squid. Picked up three... More

Their prawn rice noodle soup was very much below expectation. Very obvious using hot water instead of the beautiful broth that we are so used to. Taste very poor, will not order that again. My son had a nasi lemak and he thought it was OK. My friend had a egg noodle with Char Siew, it was red in colour... More

I love this restaurant and visit it at least once a week when I am in Auckland. The service is brusque and the decor and crockery/cutlery is rather grim and basic but you are in it to fill yourself up with some no nonsense rice and noodle soul/energy restoring dishes. The beef rendang is particularly good and I am yet... More

We were here on a Malaysian friends recommendation and it was definitely popular with Malay ex pats as it was crowded. The food was excellent and I couldn't eat it all which is saying something. A great place for cheap and cheerful authentic Malaysian dining

I have been to this restaurant many times for lunch. The food it always fast, fresh and tasty. If you haven't tried Malaysian food try this place. They have the food pictured on the menu so you can see what your getting. They offer free tea that you can get yourself. Its always packed so you might not get a... More

I was very impressed by the food at Selera. Having spent a lot of time in Malaysia, my wife and I enjoy this type of food and are always looking for an authentic place to dine. The Laksa was a winner and I will certainly be returning and recommending to friends/family.

This place is always busy and well supported by local malays; the food comes quickly, portion sizes are generous and there's a wide range of dishes and flavours. Some dishes are very tasty (e.g., beef rendang, laksa) others, were quite disappointing - the sambel prawn dish is deep fried and the prawns smelt off (sulphury); the squid was also heavily... More

You don't come here for the service or the atmosphere, both of which are very basic. You return again and again for the most wonderful Malaysian food, it is our family must-eat restaurant and probably the place we have been to most often in the past few years. The food is fabulous with special mention for the beef rendang, salt... More
