Pasta was good, the boss isn't the nicest guy on earth. Poor staff... Can leave the place with a smile in the tummy, but not in the face.

Had always heard about Lygon Street in Melbourne and Mercadante didn't disappoint. We dined on a Monday night relatively early so place was pretty quiet. Diners leaving told us it was a great meal, and that with the 33 pizzas and best chocolate pizza convinced us to take a seat. We had a table outside and drinks and meals came... More

Choosing where to eat on Lygon Street is always a challenge. We were not disappointed with our choice to be persuaded by "Bobby's Sales Pitch" 33 Choices of Wood Fired Pizzas plus great pasta. The world famous dessert pizza was a nice finish to the evening.

Italian cuisine at its best on lygon st carlton. We ordered our food and after a few sips of vino, out it came. Piping hot pizza and pasta washed down with italian red wine. Our table on the footpath was fabulous. Watching life go by on lygon st is an experience not to miss. This restaurant ticks all the boxes.... More

In short, must must must visit. Tasty and delicious. Authentic food. We ordered almost all varieties from Wood fired Pizza, Focaccia, Bruschetta, Calzone, Pasta & Risotto. Everything was tasty. Garlic and Cheese focaccia was on pizza base which was a bit strange. Its busy and difficult to get a seat on weekend.

Spent New Year's Eve here with 9 other family members all our meals were fantastic and the team there were great. They seem to want to engage with their diners. Great food, great time had by all, will definitely go back.

Family of 4 adults & 1 kid went looking for that iconic Lygon St experience. This place was packed but they found us a table and looked after us really well. Loads of choice. Was something like 33 pizza options. 3 of the large size was perfect for our group. Loved the sound of the porcini & truffle oil pizza,... More

Long wait, with few people in the restaurant. Starter was a taste plate... Over cooked no flavour and disappointing at this stage we didn't want to stick around for what was next to come. But only having a Salad and pizza to go we did. Salad was fine and the pizza was average. We wouldn't go back.

Took way to long to take our order, bring our drinks, starters also took way too long to bring out. Dirty glasses, terrible food. Put some effort in next time.......actually won't be a next time for us!

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighborhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighborhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
