The food was good, environment clean, and friendly Indonesian speaking staff. Reasonably priced. Good location and easily accessible by trams.

I came for a business trip + to meet one of my oldest friend in Melbourne just a couple weeks ago. At some point, I was feeling a little bit homesick coz i miss Indonesian food! My friend told me about Nelayan, so i went there and oh boy! was it good! They served authentic Indonesian food with reasonable price... More

Stumbled upon this place whilst looking for something to eat on a recent holiday to Melbourne. Nice-ish looking place with plenty of tables. Staff were nice and friendly. Bain-maries kept food warm for an instant meal or you could order from a menu. We opted for a freshly cooked mie goreng and nasi goreng, both very nice with authentic flavours.... More

The food is not bad, almost authentic, but I can understand they have to adjust it to the Australian taste buds. I like eating here when I am in a hurry to eat a good meal. People are friendly and the service is very good. They also serve Indonesian desserts that make me come back to this place. During lunch... More

`This is an institution I believe as the food is well priced for 100% authentic Indonesian food. The rending is so tasty just thinking of it now makes me drool a little. You can have different combo dinners depending on how hungry you are. You will always have at least about 8 different vegetable or meat dishes to choose from... More

Unfortunately not that many good indonesian restaurant around that I can find. This one has been around a long time and quite consistent with their quality. The food is alright, maybe a little more on the good side but not great. However due to lack of competition and supply this is not a bad place when I miss some home... More

We have just stopped in at the Nelayan restaurant for a quick lunch and was impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly staff. We had the beef curry on yellow rice topped with fried egg and chilli. The total cost $17.00 now that a very cheep lunch for 2

We had a plate of nasi goreng and a plate of nasi campur (White rice + chicken rendang + vege). They both tasted average. The restaurant was quite full with Indonesians, Malaysians and a Mat Saleh couple when we came in. Probably it's the most accessible halal Indonesian food along the famous Swanston St. Pricewise, I would say bordering on... More
