The steak was well cooked and very tender. I found the staff not to be as good though. Not very attentive and forgetting our drinks and bill.

The place have this people trying to convince you to dine there, which can be discouraging. But we were in a hurry and it was near the jazz club. They gave us free house wines which was not bad, drinkable and ok. The pumpkin and asparagus risotto was ok, and I would strongly suggest to remove the mozzarella. It simply... More

Food was outstanding. Staff was very friendly, even by Australian standards. Reasonably priced, and they even have good house wines. They handled a party of 8 with no problem.

In a place which has such an array of similar restaurants, you would think that the wait staff would actually pretend to care. Not here. Terrible service going 3x times. Food was dry and overly salty. Never going back.

We were a group of 4 trolling the wonderful lanes of Melbourne when we once again stumbled across Hardware Lane which was not far from our accommodation. We were lured in to Cafe Max (obviously a modernisation of Max's Cafe) by a talented and attentive spruiker. Not yet having experienced a steak to my liking I was assured I would... More

Hardware Land in Melbourne is wall to wall fine dining, and Cafe Max now has 2 shop fronts close together. We arrived before 6 pm and caught the special - 2 courses for $29.. It was a little strange to see our order walk down the street to us, but, service was quick, and the staff very attentive. The advantage... More

Terrible service, food arrived cold!! Attitude of staff member was like we were interrupting her daily ritual and had moved her out of her comfort zone, simply by asking to be seated. Plates and food was VERY COLD! Pretty ordinary for what was supposed to be a hot breakfast. Didn't bother to complain as waitress wasn't interested from beginning. Give... More

Food is good however some of the staff seem to forget what service is all about. They don't like it when you pay by credit card and it appears the card machine is always down.
