Hipsters can go suck it, this is the real thing!

A gorgeous authentic Italian coffee bar that's been here for as long as I can remember. Hipsters can go suck it, this is the real thing! I have only ever had coffee here, and espressos at that, but the food looks good too. I like the older Italian barista and staff, friendly and cheerful. It is... read more

Could not get in for dinner restaurant was packed on a Friday night. Went back after dinner for coffee. OMG! So wished we had eaten dinner there. The buzz, the atmosphere was just Devine. Such nostalgia, the owner made four of us very welcome. It was our sisters 60th birthday weekend. He went out of his way to entertain us... More

"Old World Charm"..."Melbourne Institution"...come on! Walked in and was ignored by both people behind the counter, one especially who was fairly idle. I thought I had finally got some eye contact and asked for a coffee and if they had anything sweet to go with it and was ignored so I asked again. "Strudel" came the reply. I had a... More

Went for coffee and cake, both fantastic, as others have said you don't go for the smiling service, this is not a pretentious place, just something that hasn't changed so ce I was a girl and believe me that was a long time ago. The coffee is great, the cake delicious, the prices excellent and the service quick.

The bread actually. Can't get bread like this any where else! The pasta is of course what it's great at. One of the first restaurants on Bourke St., going into it brings a rush of nostalgia. Don't ask for salad by itself. The tells me off - you come here for the pasta not the salad! The coffee is legendary.

Well no, not the best meal ever had in a restaurant, but have been returning since 1958, on a Wednesday, for the best Cannelloni. Only served on Wednesdays. Menu has stayed the same, decor only changed in recent years and some of the waiters were young then! Nonna used to be slaving away in the kitchen! Have lived in Perth... More

We wanted a good coffee so off we walked up the street from where we were staying to the place we visited years ago. Last time we were there the service wasn't particularly friendly but the coffee was good, this time there was no one behind the bar and only 2 other customers. The place did not smell nice at... You don't go there for the food. You don't go there for the service. You go there because the establishment has this old school 1950s classic charm. The wooden bench tops. The old Italian coffee making machine. That gorgeous facade and 1950s decor - it looks like the place you would meet James Dean or Marilyn Monroe or Elvis taking... More

Bourke st institution, I like the granita, the casual style, the food is fast and good, it is always the same type of experience a definitive style which I really enjoy. When in Melbourne, just great.
