Lovely, quirky restaurant in the heartbeat of Melbourne. We sat outside enjoying the people watching and shelter from the rain. The staff were friendly – when you eventually grabbed their attention. The gluten free food was outstanding. Such a treat to be able to have dumplings again. Even my non-allergy companion enjoyed them. We were given the option to upgrade... More

We took our Japanese friend to lunch for her birthday on the weekend. The children ordered bento boxes from the kids menu while I picked out, what it seems was the favourites! Unfortunately they were out so I happily settled for the salmon. I'll have the pork belly next time! What we particularly love about Chocolate Buddha is the devine... More

Fantastic Japanese curry! We spent our evening on the terrace enjoying our meal and watching the Australian Open on the big screen. While we did have some trouble with the waitstaff (ordering drinks and they often didn't materialize so we had to keep calling over another waiter), it was still an enjoyable evening.

Dear Reviewer Thanks for taking the time out to review our restaurant So glad you enjoyed the food and had a lovely experience. I am disappointed to read that your drinks were not forthcoming as they should be. I am hoping the reason has to do with the restaurant being so busy during the Aussie open. The good news is... My wife and I were here at Fed Square on Christmas eve and enjoyed ourselves and had snacks here.We had the buddha dumplings and the veg rolls and both were great. The tea was great and the whole experience of enjoying Christmas eve seated outside the restaurant enjoying great food on a chilly evening was just great.

Dear Reviewer Thank-you for taking the time to review your experience at our restaurant. I am very pleased that you found our food to be tasty and your experience was positive. I think perhaps the only negative could have been the chilli December evening which we unfortunately cannot control! I hope you had a great time in this lovely city... More

It was 39C degrees in Federation Square and overseas visitors not at all use to our summer heat needed respite from that and good food. What else but the Chocolate Buddha. Welcoming cool and long communal dining spaces gave instant relief. The menu is generous , prices very reasonable, service fast, friendly, and efficient. The fantastic display of ancient Buddha... As a travelling Celiac it is so important to find restauranteurs that are knowledgable AND have yummy food. The Dumplings were to die for and I counted more than 20 REAL options. I was in Heavan. The service was great - very friendly and well versed in Gluten Free dining. Centrally located Chocolate Buddha is a must visit for Celiacs... More

Dear Guest Thank-you for providing such a lovely review and appreciating our impressive amount of gluten free and Celiac options. Being a restaurateur for as long as I have, I am finding that we have a duty to provide these alternatives for the dining public. The challenge is not only providing these options but making them visually appealing and tasty!... More

We met friends here for dinner and found that the food was fine but the servings were quite small. We had buddha dumplings, shake teriyaki salmon which was an incredibly small serving, vegetable curry, pok belly again very small serving and spicy pork which was somewhat soup like. Pleasant flavours but we all felt like having another meal somewhere else.... More

Dear Reviewer Thank-you for providing us with valuable feedback. It seems that the dishes you selected on the night (except for vegetable curry) were from the section Zensia / Izakaya - small dishes great to share or as a starter. We have other sections provide much more substantial meals in particularly the Donburi and Ramen section. The restaurant does become... More

The three of us were hungry. It was a nice day in Federation square. This restaurant was easy going, the food is a sort of mix between Japanese/Communal seating and sharing meets Western Coffee in Martini glasses. Nice casual atmosphere, but the food was awesome. Fresh flavours, crisp, clean palate tastes. Really moreish and excellent presentation. Definitely will go back... More

My husband & I have been dining here couple of times, food is always good, well priced & service is quick. We were so impressed with one of the waiter, Hiro. He was so friendly, helping us choosing sake (my second sake ever), talk through the menu to us. He just excellent.
