Good food, good location

It's just before 6:00 p. m. and Chocolate Buddha is about half full, with more folks dining al fresco, perhaps getting a serve of the tennis via the live feed to the Federation Square screen. And here's my vegetable curry already! It's come with miso soup and a large spoon, which I think must be for the soup, but I'm... More

We went for a mid-afternoon lunch on a cool rainy day. Seated at a long table with unobstructed view of large screen with Australian Open in progress. Our orders were promptly taken, the dishes appeared quickly, and we thought the food excellent.... Korean Fried Chicken, tori soboro somen. I had a bottle of cold cider but the drink menu is... After a long flight we had dinner at Chocolate Buddha. I have been coming here for years and it never fails to please. The ramen (we both had the vegetarian miso) was perfect and the sunset as we ate. The service was prompt and friendly.

Soo delicious!! My most favourite restaurant at the moment. Steamed Noodle Dumplings melt in your mouth! I would highly recommend them. Friendly manager who made us feel welcome.

It was lovely and cool in the restaurant on this hot Melbourne afternoon . We were greeted by Lucas and had a delicious shared meal. I have been coming to Chocolate Buddha for 11 years, always delicious clean good and wonderful location, night or day in the heart of our beautiful city Melbourne. Nice spot in Fed Square. Enjoyed the entrees, dinner was very bland and overpriced, I've had better noodle dishes for $1 all over Asia. Dessert was good. The waiters were a bit strange. One of the window blinds were broken and the hot glary sun poured in we had to keep moving seats as they couldn't put the blind down

The western side of the restaurant becomes quite hot and unpleasant in the afternoon. A "broken" roller blind that staff claimed couldn't be lowered added to the misery of several diners. It was quite humid and tiring. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. My wife and I shared a lovely appetiser of Renkon crisps. The kids didn't eat their... More

Went here recently for a work Xmas function with about 20 colleagues and was really disappointed. We had a "sharing lunch function menu" which consisted of grilled chicken teriyaki (chicken was OK, but a little bland and too much salad), beef teriyaki stir-fry (beef was dry, under-flavoured, and again too much salad), vegetable curry (this was probably the best dish,... One of the many eateries in Fed Square, the Chocolate Budda serves hot fresh Japanese food and has both indoor and outdoor seating. The food is fairly expensive but hot and very tasty. If you are seated outside, it can take a while between visits from the staff. We found it quicker to go and chase them to order and... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
