For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

Fabulous Food & Vista

We had a fabulous dinner here for a birthday celebration. Our "taxi driver" was fabulous, he attended to our every need. It was noisy but what's new, most restaurants are these days. He explained the menu, specials & brought us great drinks, the best espresso martini ever!

It is not cheap (although not as expensive as it used to be) but the food and service certainly live up to the hype. Certainly worth a visit.

Great central located place for a bite to eat. You have several options for indoor outdoor dining . Staff are pleasant and you need to check for specials throughout the week. You need to order at the bar and pick up from there too.

We booked in for dinner prior to going to Fiddler on the Roof. They offered at that time a $55 deal for 3 courses (limited choice menu). We had the Tempura cauliflower for starters which was substantial and very nice, served with a dipping sauce (furikake). Then I had the Candied Pork which was pork belly served with a very... More

We had the set meal on New Year's Eve. This comprised dishes from the normal a la carte menu, and we asked for one changed course as we don't eat scallops. We enjoyed the food which was one of the best meals we had in 3 weeks in Australia. The service was friendly and efficient and we stayed to see... More

My husband and I chose the 6 course tasting menu and were impressed with every element. Each course was well presented, had modern twists and tasted divine. We were also impressed with the service, the knowledgeable waitstaff and the general ambience of the restaurant. We will definitely return!!

An acceptable meal at quite a high price. Location on Foundation Square was convenient but the restaurant had nothing in particular to recommend it in my view

My friend and I didn't want to bother to choose so we took the set menu. Everything was so out of the world. It was a 6 course diner and by the time the main course was served I could not handle it. May be ok for guys. Would suggest looking at menus. Service is awesome. And spectacular view.

Had a Monday night late dinner here and all was pretty good. Dishes were a tad bigger than we actually expected so left pretty full. Didn't really have 1 dish that stood out but also nothing that was a bad. Perfect spot in the heart of Melbourne and would be great for any occasion.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
