Pricey & Average Food

Recently came here for dinner twice because visitors were staying nearby. Food is pretty average, but expensive. They charge for the plate of fruits (without letting us know), which are normally complimentary for almost every Chinese restaurant in Melbourne.

I'm not sure why my sisters insist returning but the food is just terrible and the service is probably the worst I've ever experienced. We have been on again off again patrons for decades... They hurry you out the door and then serve luke warm food. Try and order extra food and it's a massive problem. Not going back. Would... More

Had a full 10 person table of Tim Sim .visitor guests were not impressed.Food was average or below average except for 1 or 2 dishes.Portions were smaller than at say Gold Leaf. Service was okay. Limited and over crowded car park. Will not go again or recommend.

I've been to Taipan several times over the years. In the past it was okay, but now it is quite poor and no longer worth visiting. The problem begins upon entering. We had a big family occasion with 18 people. Unfortunately the manager at the door was rude rather than friendly and welcoming. We sat at two tables and each... More

Food was cold and not worth the money we paid except for egg tarts and special pau. Customer service was horrible- complaining when we asked for more spoons, asked us not to touch teapot lid (open means needs refill) when asked for refill of tea, redirected us to other waiter who ordered food versus conveying our requests. Not going again!

We go here for yum cha maybe once a month, and when it's good - as it was last week - it's very very good, one of the best in town. Other times it can be only a notch or two above acceptable. The key seems to be when you go. Never go at weekends. It's crowded, rushed, and there... More

We visited this place some two months ago for Yumcha and it was good - I m referring to food , not the service. Came for dinner tonight and as always the place was filled up quickly with people, mainly speaking Cantonese (which is a good sign on its authenticity). Quality of food was ok, just. Service was non-existent, as... More

We were able to get a table on a weekday at short notice so this was great and there were many Asian diners when we arrived so we figured this restaurant must live up to it s reputation. After many pieces of yum cha though we were sadly disappointed. The food was oily and expensive and we had to ask... More

We love having yum cha here. Pre-requisite for any good yum cha is the freshness of the dim sum. All their dim sum are hand made, so not your frozen and then steamed sort of dim sum. Huge variety to eat from and it is lovely ordering them from the trollies that come by, like how they do it in... More

Prior to booking I explained that I was booking for a birthday celebration, and would like a good table. I enquirer about vegetarian options and was assured of these. We arrived on time, and were told to wait for the table to be cleared. The table cloth was tired, there were chairs for two (not six), the table was partially... More
