We go here for yum cha maybe once a month, and when it's good - as it was last week - it's very very good, one of the best in town. Other times it can be only a notch or two above acceptable. The key seems to be when you go. Never go at weekends. It's crowded, rushed, and there... More

We visited this place some two months ago for Yumcha and it was good - I m referring to food , not the service. Came for dinner tonight and as always the place was filled up quickly with people, mainly speaking Cantonese (which is a good sign on its authenticity). Quality of food was ok, just. Service was non-existent, as... More

Recently came here for dinner twice because visitors were staying nearby. Food is pretty average, but expensive. They charge for the plate of fruits (without letting us know), which are normally complimentary for almost every Chinese restaurant in Melbourne.

We were able to get a table on a weekday at short notice so this was great and there were many Asian diners when we arrived so we figured this restaurant must live up to it s reputation. After many pieces of yum cha though we were sadly disappointed. The food was oily and expensive and we had to ask... More

We love having yum cha here. Pre-requisite for any good yum cha is the freshness of the dim sum. All their dim sum are hand made, so not your frozen and then steamed sort of dim sum. Huge variety to eat from and it is lovely ordering them from the trollies that come by, like how they do it in... More

Prior to booking I explained that I was booking for a birthday celebration, and would like a good table. I enquirer about vegetarian options and was assured of these. We arrived on time, and were told to wait for the table to be cleared. The table cloth was tired, there were chairs for two (not six), the table was partially... More

Wrong orders and they are not even busy! They are more interested in getting customers through than taking orders correctly. If you have been to Hong Kong this is typically the attitudes given towards customers - eatup , shutup, payup. Most Chinese putup with it. Some customers who typically go there are also loud rich Chinese and don't care. They... More

So disappointed with the services. The waiter was so rude. He practically threw plates on the table and we could hear the noise. The guy who led us to the table looked like he did not a a good sex life. Don't know why they still have customers. Foods were average to us.NEVER COME BACK HERE AGAIN.

We'd heard good things about Taipan's popular Yum Cha, including from a professional chef we respect a lot, so we went to Taipan with some anticipation of a good meal. But it was so disappointing!. The staff were disinterested at best, the food was bland and stodgy and the restaurant noisy. We won't be going back.
