Having come here on a recommendation I must say I was expecting a little better. My first attempt found me facing closed doors as the place is closed on Sunday nights, and Monday nights as well I think. Anyway came back on a day that it was open and was greeted by one of the waitresses and sat down at... More

Excellent experience here and haven't been disappointed once. Simple, clean and well layed out hawker style Malaysian food. The food here is always good and favourite place for family & friends alike. Good size portion and reasonable value for money. Would recommended Char Kuey Teow, Penang Assam Laksa and Ipoh Char Hor Fun as our favourite pick on the menu.... More

Great experience when we first dined here, authentic as it comes however it has become a bit stale over time. The standards are good but the menu needs a shake as it has become dull. Lovely staff but the decor is ordinary.

The Straits Cafe is as plain an establishment as you can imagine. Fluro tubes, vinyl tiles, simple wooden tables... but you won't find better quality (and better value) Malaysian food anywhere. We've dined here very happily many times and because we've just returned from Malaysia we were hanging out for a Char KwayTeo and a Laksa. As usual the Straits... More

Serves good Malaysian meals and most are reasonably priced. It can get busy here so ensure you book ahead specually for dinner. I like their Hainanese chicken rice, murtabak, lojak. They have specials that would do well if the staff is able to guide patrons on what the specials are to begin with. Fast service. Would go back here for... More

We are new residents in Melbourne. We heard people talked about this great Malaysian cafe with great char kwai teow and Penang Hokkien noodles. We were there recently for lunch and were very disappointed. The place was run down, and the owners had no pride in the cafe. Food was ordinary; I can cook better at home! May be we... More

We first ate here 4 years ago and the food was pretty good. We went for a quick family meal last week and thought it was a total let down. The laksa soup noodle lacked ingredients. The Rojak had too much sauce. The rendang beef was ok. We couldnt finish the Rojak not because there was too much food but... More

Authentic Malaysian cuisine without the bells and whistles. Reminds me of street food in Malasia more than any other restaurant in Melbourne. Well worth a visit.

I am not sure I am referring to the correct restaurant, "Straits of Malacca" in 188 Little Brouke Street. This buffet style restaurant is a MUST GO restaurant when you are in Melbourne. Be prepared and enjoy a hearty buffet style meal and worth very cents you spent.
