This has to be one of the worst dining experience ever! I mistaken this for Shark fin inn! The urban list mentioned Shark finn inn as a good place for Dim sum and I went here which was on the same street as Shark finn inn! I went on Chinese New Years (8th Feb 2016) and experienced this: Went to... More

We have not eaten here for a long time but it was well worth the wait. Saturday lunch is a bit frantic here but we did not have to wait to be seated. All wait staff that attended our table were pleasant and well versed with the delicious morsels on offer. Some may find it a bit pricey, however the... More

We had dinner here on Tuesday night and it was delicious! The suckling pig was tender meat and crunchy fat. Absolutely perfect! The Szechuan prawns were good as well as the traditional vegetables with tofu. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would definitely return.

We went with a Chinese couple we had not seen for a long while and had plenty to talk about which was good because the service was very tardy. The range of steamed dim sum was limited and too many fried items. Some of our favs were missing and the chickens feet were not all that tasty. Yet the bill... More

We have been before and one thing this restaurant is is consistent. The service is quick , its quality food, a little more australianised than we prefer but proffessional. Their fresh fish tanks are what many diners come for and if your budget stretches to crab, lobster or abalone than this is your place. We had fillet beef in XO... More

It's on of those place that we've been patronising for years. Grand building, split into 3 levels, always chilled in Summer and it has been renovated over the years, but keeping it clean is not their mission, dirty stained chairs, carpets, etc. Further more, very ordinary toilets that you have to go up to the 1st floor and waited a... Went there with group of 12 for Sunday Yum Cha. Very good selection, even accommodating (promptly) with vegetarian versions and dishes. Food is authentic and tasty. Highly recommended for Yum Cha

I had expected that because we did not speak the language , we would be treated as the normal way I have always been treated in mostly Non -Speaking Restaurants. The Manager and the Waitresses could not do enough, I was very pleasenatly surprised. To top it off, the food was first class. My wife who is not a Chinese... More

Have been in the past and this restaurant was one of my favourites in Melbourne along with Kingbo. Unfortunately on this occasion the service for lunch / yum cha was really poor. There were hardly any trollies and when we ordered dishes they took forever to arrive. I left halfway through on an empty stomach...

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
