I have had the great pleasure of dinning at this restaurant since it opened in the late 1970's and it has never failed to provide the very best of authentic Malaysian hawker style food. Very welcoming owners and staff. If you like Malaysian cuisine then this will not disappoint.

Like many of the reviewers here (and many of the customers) we have been coming here for 15+ years. (We used to drive from Geelong to come and eat here.) The food is consistently great and terrific value. Service it simple but efficient. When it is busy it gets noisy but for the type of place it is, noise suits... More

Came here with a group of friends after a recommendation from somebody at work, and I was glad to find this unassuming restaurant. The address is at 549 Burwood Road, rather than 395 Burwood Road as this listing says, but I have put in a request to TA to have this listing merged with the other one which does have... More

Not the unique destination it was 30 odd years ago, others have caught up, but PCH maintains it's standards producing cheap, fresh, tasty food. Highly recommended especially for Laksa.

Perhaps I'm biased because I've been a customer of Penang Coffee House for over 15 years, but I've never had a bad meal here. While the staff are incredibly welcoming, the main attraction is obviously the food. I can't comment on how faithful the meals are to hawker food served in Malaysia, but I find them to be flavourful and... More

I agree with familytraveller1012 Penang Coffee house was a good place to have cheap fairly authentic Asian food. The food is ok, but lacks anything that is stand out. There are many other restaurants in neighboring suburbs that serve better Asian hawker food. It is however a good place for a quick bite that is affordable.

When I was a uni student, Penang Coffee house was a mainstay of the 'cheap eats'; the places where you could get excellent food on uni budgets. It's still great food, and still very budget concious, but the rest of Melbourne has caught up; there's now lots of places also serving great, reasonable priced food. If you're in the area... More

Everyone knows this name really is about CURRIES and not coffee. Apparently this is a traditional Malaysian name for a curry restaurant (you go figure...) and this one is as good as it gets in my experience. Me and my wife have kept coming back for our curry-fixes for many years since back at the old tiny place where you... More

Penang Coffee House is a bit of an institution on Burwood Road and this is because all the basic requirements of a good business are in place. The premises are clean and tidy, the welcome is very friendly, the recipes are authentic, the food is freshly prepared and very tasty, and the prices (although just a little above the average)...
