When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Good Experience

Good experience for a taste of Spanish food as this was my first time. Liked the idea of small bite size dishes to that you can share. We stayed in Melbourne over Easter and were fortunate enough to have booked ahead for Mo Vida. Everything on the menu is fantastic, it is not 'over the top' from a cost perspective and every visitor to Melbourne should go there. It is very very good.

You need to book and you can do this through their website which is great. I loved the location - down a graffitied alleyway and decor fits with the SpanishTapas theme. Most of the food was fabulous I just thought the special we had been talked into by the waiter was less than average (fish) and I should have stuck... More

The menu here can seem a bit intimidating if you aren't that familiar with Spanish food, but everything we ended up ordering was awesome. The server was helpful directing us as well, the dishes are smaller than you might think. Overall though, one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Definitely make a reservation.

Splendid Tapas. I will hv to come back to Melbourne again for the sea snails again! They did it so well! The waiter worked there for a while and was extremely helpful helping us decide.

We were visiting Melbourne for 4 days and went to movida for the first time . The food was so good that we went back for to the restaurant 2 more times in the next few days. The dishes looked deceptively simple but had a complexity of tastes. We really enjoyed the tapas especially the anchovy and sea urchin. The... More

Back to MoVida for a special occasion dinner. We knew a famous 'celebrity' was dining there on the same evening. As it turned out, after many visits to MoVida in all it's forms, we were treated like celebrities. Our host Andy (Poppy;s Dad) welcomed us with a glass of Cava each. Our waitress Nikki could not have been more charming,... More
