Description: When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

We enjoyed the tapas here and would say the standards are as good as the tapas we had in Spain but with more creativity. A place for good food but don't expect much service. Spent about AUD 246 for 5 pax.

Went to Movida after getting off a very long international flight. Was worried we would all be jet lagged and not really enjoy the evening, but how wrong was I. Our waiter (I think Michael from NZ) was really charming and a wonderful host. He explained the menu very well and got on with our drinks. We ordered quite a... More

Was recommended to come here by a friend...was booked out for dinner so we decided to try for lunch. Great spot in Hosier Lane, surrounded by very interesting graffiti. The food was amazing, the cocktails to die for and the service so friendly and lovely. I bought one of the cookbooks as am dying to try to replicate those beef... More

My husband's maternal family is from Spain, so I'm pretty familiar with the flavours of authentic Spanish food. But the selection we had at Movida was nothing like what I've had in Spain. The food was fresh, subtle yet bursting with flavours. The items may look ordinary on the menu, but they were a standout in actuality. My favourites were... More

As a Californian, I think I've seen it all. Well, I ate and drank things in Australia that I hadn't dreamed of! At MoVida: Anchovy with tomato sorbet - worth the entire evening! Mackeral with pine nut sorbet! it sounds precious and too fussy but it is not - it's awesome. And, we had the best bread we'd eaten in... More

I thought the meal was very good. The service was ok . But I ate there on Friday night in the heart of the city, and the kitchen closed at 10.15. They were turning potential customers away at 10. I woukd not be happy if I was the owner. I was very surprised as this purports to be a Spanish... More

We have lunch at Movida a few times a year and have never been disappointed. We like the atmosphere which is like a small Spanish bar and the waiting staff have always been excellent. Having been in Spain recently I think the tapas we have eaten at Movida is as good as any we had in There. You do need... More
