When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Good tapas bar

This is a nice tapas bar in hosier lane. It is a nice respite following an afternoon of walking around the city. We came here at around 3 pm. While the bar was open, they only had the tapas menu. The ambiance and service were excellent. I enjoyed my wine. It was reasonably priced. The charcuterie... read more

Great tapa, attentive and very helpful staff, do ask about how to order and what to eat as some tapa are cold and some not which you might not have expected by the descriptions... Sangria is great, just ask for soda instead of lemonade if you don't likenit too sweet Very good value! just remember to book

We tried to get into Movida next door but they had a 40 minute wait. But on a guess we checked with Movida and they had space (at the bar.. which can be fun) in 15 minutes after they did a shift change. As usual we were overwhelmed with the choices and entertained by the fastidious (OCD) bar tender. By... More

Movida is a wonderful dining experience. I loved the atmosphere, very busy and just how I would imagine a tapas bar would be. All the dishes we tried we loved. I am not one who likes anchovies but loved it when it was placed on the bread wafer and had the smoked tomato sorbet on top. Overall I can wait... More

Really good food, service was great but he did make mistakes, forgot one of your mains, which didnt really matter as it was changed to a vege dish and we wouldnt have needed the other main anyway. Would go back

Come to MoVida if you like dining with a difference. It is a spanish restaurant, which had a hip twist to it on the inside. Sharing is a must. Dont come here if you don't like seafood or sardines. There are vego options if you want but you won't get the full dining experience. Rather expensive but recommend if you... More

Arrived for late lunch on a Saturday at 2.30pm. Very helpful wait staff, superb food and wine. The beef cheeks with cauliflower is excellent! Lots of happy patrons, great atmosphere!

It's always nice to find Spanish-influenced cuisine when travelling, it's not all that common here in Oz. Movida is a must try in Melbourne. While I can't say the service was always outstanding, the food was of a high standard with some standout dishes. Plenty of Spanish Tempranillo will always help my judgement.

Always book to get a good table unless you want to eat at the bar if they can fit you in. The food and service here is top shelf. Don't let your eyes be to big for your belly.
