When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes. It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

As always perfect!

I haven't been to this wonderful restaurant for awhile and it hasn't changed. Just fabulous! The goat's cheese cigars and the pate' were a fantastic way to start then we finished off with the beef cheeks on cauliflower puree. Bliss! What a shame we didn't have room for dessert. Next time.

We had a lovely lunch here yesterday sampling a number of things off the tapas and regular menu and enjoyed all dishes bar the cos lettuce one that was terribly gritty (we weren't charged, but would have preferred to pay for a perfect dish). I especially loved the mushrooms in sherry vinegar, the loin of lamb cooked to pink perfection... More

I have been here about 3 times and it is fantastic. My last time with my wife was perfect! We ate our way through the Tapas and then onto some mains. Washed down with great Spanish beer and wine we almost rolled out the door. We did over eat but with so many dishes that we wanted to try, the... More

Went here for lunch after hearing good things. I was surprised at how small the menu was - not too many options for a tapas bar. Having said that the food was tasty but not exceptional. Still worth a visit.

Our waitress was friendly and welcoming. She explained the menu to us, so we could order with confidence. I have experienced Spanish food and wine before and was aware of what we might expect. The food was delicious, well prepared and served. Movida has a good wine list, of Spanish and local wines. We were staying at Wyndham Hotel, about... More

Visited a few weeks back with my girlfriend.. We generally eat out 2 or 3 times a week and we really couldn't fault this place it was effortless! The staff were so well trained I was very impressed.. Our waiter read out the whole specials board and explained in detail every dish without pausing- well remembered! The food was also... More

This restaurant had a great vibe. I love tapas and each dish that came out was delicious. The pate was very moorish. The seafood dish had a beautiful sauce and tasty mussels. The highlight was the quail dish. Awesome wine list & great service. We were surprised we were able to just walk in and get a table, we did... More

Visited Movida couple times in April and the food was just awesome, service was warm and friendly. The off-menu items one evening that caught our attention was a marinated goat meat and was it one dish to remember - totally succulent with layers after layers of taste that lingered on the palate. One thing for sure is, don't be shy... More

Fantastic restaurant that lives up to the hype. Make sure you book ahead or try your luck on the cancellations list. The beef cheeks are 'a must have'.
