Still as good as ever

We have been going to Kenzan for many years and although we hadn't been in quite a while our recent visit was just like old times. The food hasn't changed much over the years and is still excellent. Service is also very good. We dined in a party of five with one vegetarian amongst us. Although... read more

Kenzan is one of our favourite Japanese restaurants as it has never disappointed us. The service is excellent and the quality of the sushi and sashimi is top class. I find it hard to go past their bento box lunch set which provides a tasty array of Japanese specialities. The miso soup has a great depth of flavour.

The restaurant has a great ambiance but was rather noisy to have a conversation, perhaps due to the busy dinner crowd. Food was ok but not fantastic. Be prepared to pay in this rather overpriced restaurant!

Had the lunch bento special. Had an important business lunch and needed quiet. Quality of dumplings sushi and sashimi was perfect. Although it's man sized.

S37°48.899' E144°58.377' an unassuming shopping arcade houses one of the best Japanese restaurant of Melbourne. In Japan, it is not uncommon to find excellent restaurants tucked away in the back of shopping arcades or railway stations. On Christmas Eve 2015, we ordered the two persons set menu of sukiyaki with Japanese marbled beef for AUS$97 per person. The menu consisted... More

Ate here without a booking on arrival to Melbourne. Located in the basement of Collins Place below the Sofitel. Nice ambiance. Waitresses all looked and sounded Japanese. Good service. Everything we had was tasty except I thought the sushi rice was a bit wet and the seasoning a little off. The portion of sushi and sashimi was good for the... More

I've been often to Kenzan over the years, but not for a couple of years. Which means that I've missed out on good Japanese food. Four of us went for dinner, and chose the banquet menu - although there were some good dishes among the printed daily specials. Lovely banquet menu: well-balanced dishes, and outstanding sushi and sashimi. The wine... More

Will have to visit again with family probably for dinner, ordered the set menu and was a decent amount of food, loved every bit of it, although will have to put it through the full test at ease. Location not quite crash hot entrance via the food court but decent place to eat before a movie.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
