nothing special

Tried this one when we couldn't get into Yu U, nearby. Not a patch on it sadly. Tempura was a bit greasy with not very light batter and my colleagues had some kind of meat do it yourself stew, which was not at all good. Very hidden inside an office building but to be honest I wouldn't go our... read more

We have visited Kenzai several times and almost always include a visit when we are in Melbourne. I have to say that our visit at the beginning of the week was more than a disappointment. One of our party was ill following the meal. The sashimi and sushi did not taste fresh and they obviously were not. Maybe the fact... More

After reading a review in our in-flight magazine we turned up for lunch without a booking . Luckily we were the first to arrive a few minutes before they were serving and shown a table as soon as they were 'open'. Within 30 minutes the place was full and people waiting - so if you want to lunch a bit... More

A Japanese restaurant that has stayed in the one place for over 20 years is testament to how good it really is. Service is impeccable, the food is unbelievably good, and the price is moderate. Been dining there for over 20 years and can honestly say it has remained the japanese restaurant of choice for that time. Exceptional.

My sister and I especially like to have lunch at Kenzan when we're feeling nippy for Japanese food. While the overall price for everything is relatively expensive, we happily pay because the quality of the food you receive is excellent, in addition to the portions being quite large. The presentation of the food is lovely and the staff are very... More

We booked a business lunch in one of their private rooms - the 'real' Japanese experience where shoes are removed as you sit on what appears to be the floor, but you sit down with your feet under the below floor table. Even though we had a private room, the walls were paper-thin (traditional as many would say), but this... More

We have dined at Kenzan almost weekly for many years. It is always fresh, consistent, and the staff are lovely. We love the seaweed salad to start and then the shiitake tempura mushrooms. The medium combination platter is very generous with a great selection of seafood and we like to get extra oysters. We are so pleased with our selection... More

If you are looking for fresh sushi and sashimi at an affordable price, Kenzan is the place to go. The restaurant has a nice, relaxing ambiance and has great attention to detail. They have beautiful teapots and plates imported from Japan. And food is presented in a very beautiful manner. From the common salmon to Otoro (belly of the tuna),... More

Chawan Mushi served for one (often it is required to order for 2) and sushi to die for - a lot of things to die for in this restaurant! Also handy was a pretty good selections of wines in half bottles, for those whose tastes differ from others at the table. The service was attentive, friendly and the prices here... More
