A Gem Not To Be Missed

I visit this lovely little restaurant often and especially when I have foreign business guests that I want to experience the delights of Melbourne. The food is always supurb and not the common pizza/pasta but delicious extras - try the polenta or the Calabrian meatballs you won't regret it.

We were impressed the moment we walked in the door, by the friendly welcome and cozy setting. The exposed brickwork adds a charming ambiance. Our italian speaking waitress was delightful, and my agnelotti (ricotta filled ravioli) were deliciously light with a pumpkin and tomato sauce. Very, very enjoyable. My husband liked his gnocchi but said that the agnelotti were even... More

I was looking for one in Carlton and Il Cantuccio hold my attention with these very nice reviews. I gave it a chance and I will never regret. I felt like Italian this evening. I went for chicken as always and Italian wine, WOW! Marabilioso - I think I should say!

We planned to go to this restaurant from reading reviews and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing..my partner said it was one of the best meals he has ever had at a restaurant. They were very quick and we felt they went above our expectations, providing pasta and icecream to our toddler at no cost.

We go to Melbourne once a year and always eat here. One of the reasons is the great welcome from Laurie. She does make us feel special and has great recommendations. We ordered a bottle of " Bonking Frog" merlot on her recommendation and it was very good. She also suggested a great veal dish which I really enjoyed. The... More

When in Melbourne we always have at least one meal in this delightful little restaurant in Lygon Street. Prices are mid-range, perhaps just a little high for the food you get, but the quality is always there and the food delicious. The staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful. We have never been disappointed. As it is not large I... More

Very old fashioned Italian, gloomy inside. Pretty poor Caesar salad with stale croutons. Pasta OK but all a bit bland. My mistake coming in with a tourist. If you love fresh tasty food you can do much better in Melbourne.

I enjoyed the evening so much that I decided to write this review as soon as I got home. The atmosphere was dark, cosy and intimate, with lots of happy chat at the tables. Three of us dined here tonight and had the best meal. We received a friendly greeting, without being over the top. They took pains to ensure... More

My father and I visited Il Cantuccio on a Saturday night in late December without a booking. It was busy with lots of reserved tables but we managed to get a get a table outside for two people after 830pm. The restaurant is on the southern end of the Lygon St precinct which makes it an early pick for those... More
