Good, but not great

Visiting from Sydney, ate here on a Saturday night. Loved the old style italian service. Good atmosphere. Food ok. My veal didn't have much flavour and was raw at the bone but no-one seemed to care, husband's steak very nice. Will mark the restaurant as 'been there, done that no need to go back'.

I feel like there should almost be three different review sites for this restaurant. We have dined here before but never upstairs. We were very much looking forward to this treat and we were not disappointed. We chose the GranTour with paired wines. I must say that we thought the food and wines were good but the great. With that... More

Walking into the little front bistro section of Grossi Florentino - is like walking into a time machine that takes you back to "the good old times." The atmosphere, the black waist coated staff; the formal politeness - may not be what you want all the time but its great to see that it still exists. We just wanted a... More

1. Service great 2, dessert, fabulous tiramisu best I have had. 3. Appetizers ok 4. Main - wouldn't go back. Medium steak I asked for mine was rare and no flavour. The guy offered to make me another one as he agreed it wasn't cooked medium but I couldn't put myself through eating another piece of bland meat. No sauce... More

This Melbourne icon never fails to impress. The upstairs restaurant is old world stylish and elegant, the service attentive, professional and friendly and the food is absolutely first class. Our entree oysters were superb and the risotto was so impressive another diner came up to ask what I was eating. The toothfish prima was perfectly cooked and beatifully presented. At... More

dropped in before a show & had the best service (thanks Tye) and awesome food. Make sure someone at your table orders the stuffed zucchini flower for entree and the ravioli stuffed with Moreton bay bug meat for main so you can get to try it....omg absolutely to die for!! If I lived here I'd be back for sure but... More

Arriving upstairs at Grossi Florentino is like being welcomed into first class - the staff are extremely professional, polite and attentive. The restaurant ambience is wonderful, old world combined with sophisticated Italian glamour and you immediately relax and let it take hold. We started the evening with a very good bottle of French champagne, one that was not yet available... More

30 minutes after we were seated our wine and some bread arrived. No offer to decant led to plenty of sediment on an 11 year old red. Tiny portions and expensive. Suckling lamb had small bones filtered through it. Crumbed veal was plain and ordinary. Smoked kingfish carpaccio was a highlight. Zucchini flowers were tasty but they could be a... More

We were looking for a quick meal prior to the Sting/Paul Simon concert this week and had a great meal at Florentino Bistro. The staff were friendly, understood that we were in a "hurry" and delivered very nicely. We began with a wonderful tomato bruschetta, as it is tomato market time. Then we enjoyed a gnocci gorgonzola and fettuccine carbonara.... More

Firstly I must say that with out question the staff and over all ambience of the dining room was simply first class, reminicent of dining excellence in Northern Italy but unfortunately cannot say the same about the food. Dined on a Saturday evening to celebrate my husbands birthday as Grossi was a long awaited place to experience so expectation was... More
