Blue Cheese salad

This is an old favourite of mine and the wife loves as well... Cannot beat their Foie gras and the scampi is second to none, however the real jewel at this restaurant is the blue cheese and cos lettuce salad. I could eat every day however I don't think the heart would agree. See you soon for... read more

On a recent Sunday, following the arrival from overseas of our daughter, we decided to organise a family reunion dinner, and thought France Soir might be an appropriate venue. We made a reservation for 8pm, but on arrival were told by the not particularly apologetic waiter "I want to be honest with you, your table will not be ready for... More

France Soir is a Melbourne institution. However, nothing has changed for some years and having spent some time in France (last trip 5 months ago), we could only rate France Soir as an ordinary experience. The floor had pieces of food left over from lunch. A chef who was finishing his shift came out to the dining area and not... More

We went there mid week and the place was buzzing which is a good indication of the experience to come. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere had a real Franch restaurant feel all down to the finial coffee. The menu has typical French offerings and the wine list is a mix of Australian and French with the staff happy... More

I like medium rare, for some reason most restaurants can't take the challenge. This is not the case at France Soir, I walked in with a heathy level of skepticism about the venue. It looked overpriced from the outset with staff appearing distracted . Both very common in the abundance of aging upper class eateries. I was pleasantly surprised though... More

The food it excellent. I ate Steak Tartare that was excellent my husband had the Veal Chop which was outstanding as I had a taste. The steaks that the others had were also fabulous, and even the mushrooms my husband requested not to be done with cream were excellent. The Pomme Frite were delicious as you would expect of a... Never I experienced such appalling service. The attitude of the pseudo French waiters reminded me of all the reasons why the French are so loathed around the rest of the World. Providing water at a table without being asked, checking on how good courses were and seeing if deserts or drinks are required are expected at a place that claims... More

Dinner for 3 on Tuesday night at 7pm. Very noisy restaurant and tables cramped together but good service. -Waiters were attentive and meals served on a reasonable time basis Meal s were quite large and reasonable quality. Soup to start was a very large bowl so did not need dessert. Main courses large - other guests had desserts which were... More

It is rather chaotic when you arrive there. People queuing before being seated. The food is good, started with tuna tartare. Main rockling fillet (lots of bones!) and no garnish. No alternative for coeliacs only pommes frittes. Disappointingly a lack of imagination and interest from waiter/kitchen when it comes to dietary requirements. Too noisy, left without being tempted for dessert.... More

France Soir is an institution in Melbourne. The wine list is quite extensive and there will be something for all tastes and wallets at reasonable prices. You will need to be selective regarding choice of mains. This is not high end food but is very reliable and consistent - this is a brasserie. If you are looking for atmosphere, this... More
