Good food but shockingly overpriced

The food is good but not $100-per-person good! We ate at this restaurant for lunch. We ordered dimsum and 1 lobster noodle dish and you can imagine our surprise when the bill came out to $600 for the 5 of us. The food was good but I have had much better dimsum around the world.

I had heard about this restaurant for eighteen years and finally had dinner there one Thursday evening. We were seated by the head waiter and I loved the table spacing. Even though the place was half empty our host looked away to stare vacantly across the room in the middle of speaking with us and finished off with a mumble... More

went for a mid week lunch with my wife for a special treat. the service was good with no smiles but the food was awful. we have travelled all through asia for the last 25years and its the worst chinese food ive ever eaten apart from suburban restaurants in the 70s and 80s. the servings are so small and the... Delicious food and beautiful attentive service. A large restaurant but tables are spaced well so you don't over hear others and others don't over hear your conversation. A most enjoyable lunch.

This restaurant is so up itself that it is almost disappearing up its own backside, the food is ridiculously expensive and incredibly bland, quite the worst Peking duck ever, very fatty and totally lacking in any flavour, even with the added cucumber and spring onion and plum sauce. The manager got the order wrong for my squid, he gave me... More

Wandering the streets of Melbourne looking for "that" restaurant can be daunting. Following the sou wester that was blowing the gnarly autumn leaves along the cobblestones led me to Market Lane in Chinatown. Flower Drum - hmmm, sounds familiar. On entering away from the cold I was warmly welcomed and seated by friendly, humble staff. The waiters were superb and... More

During Melbourne Food & Wine festival 2015, eight of us enjoyed an “Eight Culinary Traditions Yum Cha” which in reality were a total of 15 different entrees served throughout the 3 hour session. As soon as you walk in through the large front door you entered into in a different world. The Décor including all the framed Michelin-Hat awards and... More

Flower Drum is not a restaurant we get to go to often, when we do it's usually a special occasion, as it was on Friday night. The food was fabulous as you would expect, my favourite dish being the Peking Duck of course but in a narrow photo finish with the Quail Sang choi bao. But back to the service,... More

I had been highly recommend to the Flower Drum when we were in Melbourne, and sadly we were both a little let down. Food was lovely, but i found it awkward having the waiter pretty much standing over you waiting on you to finish. We both left there feeling hungry and our meal came out so quickly we were only... Second time dining here, although they have tried to "modernise" the food by attempting to draw in a younger crowd, it is still not worth the hype. The food was average and nothing spectacular. Fortunately it was a work lunch so didn't have to pay for it. Still, there are much better choices out there nowadays - keep up Flower... More
