Over-priced and Past its Best

Went out with the family and the first thing you notice at the restaurant is how cold it is and secondly, how old fashioned the décor is. The menu was extensive but very expensive ($4.50 for one dim sum) - with a table of 5 that quickly adds up. However, the dim sums were lovely and tasty. Other... read more

We had high expectations of this restaurants based on a previous (over 20 years ago experience). Arrival - It felt like we were an inconvenience on arrival but were eventually seated. Entree - The duck was perfect - best I have ever tasted - but I would expect that for the prices. Everything else that followed was an epic failure.... More

Yes the Flower Drum Restaurant is classy and service is fine dining, but what's the point if they can't offer you anything decent to eat! There were only 2 vegetarian entree choices and a page of vegetables to choose from. When I enquired about more, the waiter only gave me 2 more options. I was soo disappointed as I had... More

It has become a habit to visit The Flower Drum when we visit Melbourne from Queensland. To date, it has not disappointed us and this visit was no exception, a great pleasure, particularly the spontaneous "how to use your chopsticks elegantly" lesson given by two of the younger waitstaff. Greatly enjoyed, as was the meal - lightly battered barramundi -... More

My wife and I wandered in without reservations on a Saturday at 1PM. After an unnecessary show of seeing if we could be accommodated (the place was more than half empty the whole time we were there) we were ushered into an elevator to the exceptionally large dinning room. We were seated in "Siberia" near one other couple but away... More

Love love the flower drum, out family favorited. Clean eating cantonese food, fantastic service, great wine list. Does cater a little bit for big groups and its not very intimate but we still love it!

We wandered into the Flower Drum later in the evening one night and were absolutely blown away by the quality of the food here and the exceptional service. It's the best Cantonese food I've ever eaten. We had dim sum, luscious king prawns with ginger and shallot, Peking duck, some stir fried beef and finished with toffee apple. It all... More

I took my partner to the flower drum for dinner after getting engaged earlier that day, and it didnt dissapoint. From the moment we stepped inside we were made to feel like VIP's even though they had no idea of the occasion. We ended up ordering the 7 course banquet, which is expensive, but the food was amazing and the... More

We were treated like royalty and had the best service. Can highly recommend the set menu which was full of surprises and cooked to perfection. Expensive but worth every cent

This renowned Melbourne restaurant is a must eat! Best chinese restaurant.....but I must say it was overpriced. I dined in the private dining area where the service was good and food was great. But wasn't pleased with the $200 bill per person for lunch. Perhaps I chose dare wines!! Overall, it is a beautifully cooked chinese cuisine.
