Very disappointed in food. We were visiting from Adelaide My wife's dish of some kind of lamb rack was absurdly small. My meal of pork chops looked like chicken nuggets - quite bizzare. I shared my "nuggets" with her.For all the hype perhaps its best days are behind it. Was very expensive and would certainly not return. Geoff

The food we ate was just all so fresh and amazing you will just love anything you order. We started with a few entrees to sample different tastes. We popped the Veuve Cliquot rose 2004 ! Firstly the crackling pork with plum sauce and a tasty apple fritter, then an absolute delicacy pearl meat, followed by seafood parcel a dish... More

Having heard how amazing the food and service was at the Flower Drum since moving to Melbourne ten years ago, I thought it was time to have a meal there. I took my partner as a special treat for her birthday, expecting seamless service, exceptional food and an overall superb experience. These were the things my partner and others had... More

We went to the Flowerdrum Restaurant recently and after spending a lot of time in China over the last two years found that it lacks authenticity, is way over priced, never clear about what you will pay for things, and really lacks the taste of good Chinese food. Effectively it's very westernised as are much of the old Chinese restaurants... More

Recently visited Melbourne on a P&o cruise ship, which in itself is a no miss fantastic experience, and went to The Flower Drum restaurant. This restaurant lives up to its reputation 110% from arriving at the front door to leaving. The food was like eating in one of the classic chinesse restaurants in China, the presentation and taste was a real... Our first family night at Flower Drum was in 2004 when we finally gave in to mum's insistence that we all have dinner there at her expense. What a wonderful night we had with no expense spared and the start of the Prostate Handicap - a race to the toilet between my daughter, son and I because my daughter was... More

Down a short laneway in an unremarkable building from the outside, which is quite lovely on the inside. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. I can recommend the seafood dumpling which was so delicious and fresh, I could taste every single ingredient that was described in the menu. This was a good dining experience... More

I haven't been to the Flower Drum for many years but was not surprised to see that not much has changed. The Flower Drum represents old school Asian cuisine and hospitality - comfortable chairs and tables, lazy Susan on the table, somewhat sycophantic staff and delicious food. Ideal if you want to impress clients or show you are in charge... More

On a wing & a prayer my trainee concierge at the hotel I was staying in got me a table at this fabulous place! I was by myself, and was treated like royalty from the moment I stepped into the red door! The place was buzzing with people(Great "star" spotting place), even though I was dining alone, my table was... More

I have travelled Asia/Australasia often over the past 18 years and flower drums meals are the cleanest, freshest I have experienced! My wife has also travelled to china/Hong Kong frequently in the last 7years & isn't fond of saucey foods and "funky meats" (knuckles/skin & fat) after eating there she was surprised on the the high level preparation. Fine dining... More
