Very attentive staff, no delays in looking after you which is great. I had the porterhouse which was quite fatty and a bit of a let down because all of the entrees were fantastic. Good friendly atmosphere so definitely recommend and the salmon I heard was lovely..... Jealous!!

This is a hidden gem because it is up an alley off the main street, so you will probably need to check a map. The food is expensive and modern but is extremely tasty and satisfying. The staff know their food so don't be afraid to ask them for wine recommendations.

Went for a birthday lunch with some work colleagues while away from home in Melbourne. We found the place by accident after walking around the area. The menu was creative and inspiring. The taste was even better. Nicely paired wine list and starters. Would highly recommend. GF, DF, and vegetarian options available (and delicious!). Not a place for a quick,... More

Was really looking forward to having dinner and drinks with friends at The Deanery on Saturday night. The reviews looked good and it was also in the Flavours of Melbourne book. When I made the reservation Donelle was lovely on the phone - great customer service etc. We called the restaurant at 10 minutes before we were due to dine... More

Been to back a few times as a guest for business lunches. Food is ok, from the steaks to the seafood dishes. Good selection of entrees, mains and desserts. However, no one dish really stands out. Beware it can get very noisy if there are functions and bearly have a conversation. Food service is slow so be patient. service staff... More

I took a friend to dinner here. What a wonderful experience. It was quiet enough for us to be able to talk without shouting, the food was excellent and the service was impeccable. I will return.

The atmosphere of this restaurant was pleasant. Great menu choices and wine list. I had the duck and it was delicious. The only complaint I have was the length of time we waited for our meal. It wasn't that busy. Allow plenty of time.

Visited on a Monday night so they weren't busy , service was attentive, but table (5) next to us, the only others there, had a long wait and then food arrived one dish at a time spread over 5 minutes. Our mains were tasty and of a good size but were not hot. Starting to think this is a Melbourne... More

Went to the Deanery on a Thursday evening as part of a group. Orders were taken relatively quickly but it took more than 2 hours to get our mains and, quite frankly, they were not worth the wait. Find somewhere else for dinner.

This is a local gem of a place. The food is always good quality and with decent serves - a 3 course might find you rolling out the door. The wine list is terrific and the sommelier knows his stuff. I like the feel of the place - its comfortable and its not bustling. The service was great but it... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
