Hidden diamond in the rough

Brilliant little bar and high quality restaurant at the end of a lane way in Melbourne. Perfect experience for a date, business lunch/dinner, or any other occasion. They also have a big table for a larger group (<10). They server Port Philip Estate Kooyong range of wines, which is one of my... read more

I was looking forward to trying this highly-rated eatery and so brought some friends from Switzerland here. Not a great start when a private function had booked the restaurant, but that was ok, we could eat downstairs...a little more casual but no problem. I ordered some wine. The waitress was no help, frankly, and I ordered a dud off the... More

We wandered around a little after an evening flight to find a nice restaurant and stumbled upon this gem. The good was outstanding! The steamed chicken buns are a must and a lovely surprise. Mains are very nicely presented, good size and tasted amazing. Great wine menu, as it is also a wine bar. Great service and price. Would happily... More

2 days ago my wife and I had a great dinner at the Deanery. Located in the back of a vary busy alley where you might not want to go in at first sight. I had a perfect bloody mary and I can't remember having eating such tender slow cooked meat in a wine sauce. My wife had croquettes filled... More

I was taken here for a work dinner with colleagues, the service was fantastic and thee were many gluten free options. The decor was lovely and the food very tasty, what more could you want!

Have been there a few time for dinner & also for a drink and light bites. On each occasion the food, wine and service have been excellent. A very extensive wine list which at first seemed daunting but all you have to do is ask for help, say what you intend to order and the style of wine you like... More

I spent AGES trying to find a location that wasn't too intimate, too noisy, too pricey etc for a business dinner. I came across The Deanery thanks to a search on Dimmi for 'business' meal locations and confirmed it was the place for us after reading a review on Tripadvisor. The eight of us were take upstairs to a carpeted... More

The deanery is at the end of one of those little lane ways off flinders lane and therefore must survive as a destination in itself as there is no "passing traffic".i thought it was a bar and went in for a drink with my wife but it has a dining area at the back. The decor and ambience were casually... More

A hidden gem but really nice. When I first enter, I think I'm in "just a pub", but this place is much more - there are lots of options too. It can be a good after work drinks outing, just snacks and tapas or you can choose to have a great meal in the good dining area upstairs. Food is... More
