With a refurbishment about 1 year ago from memory, the Oriental teahouse (on Chapel St) feels nice and fresh again. It's local for us, and has a really homely feel to the interior as you are surrounded by shelves selling teas and crockery. The dumplings come out reasonably quick. The waygu beef and juicy pork dumplings are particular favourites. Also... More

A friend and I dropped into this restaurant one Saturday night. We ordered the pork buns, prawn and chive dumplings, chinese broccoli, slow cooked beef, rice. Dumplings came in serves of 3 which is always annoying when there are 2 people. We asked for the serves to be 4. We also had two glasses of white wine and two beers.... More

Had a range of items. All the food was great except the prawn dumpling (and we had about four different serves) were over cooked, a bit chewy, and some of them a bit tasteless. I've had then here before though and they were sensational so maybe just a little inconsistent. The service is fantastic, the location, exceptional and the general... More

We went here for lunch today and the first thing we found when we were seated was they seem to lack air conditioning or fans. It was a very hot day in Melbourne and we didn't feel much relief from the heat when we sat down. We asked for a glass of water to start with and that was room... More

We have been to plenty of yum cha restaurants around Melbourne and this is our favourite. Shark Fin Inn is our second favourite. Shark Fin Inn is more authentic- but if you are a dumpling lover then tea house is better. Tea house is not your normal yum cha restaurant because there are no trolleys coming around- they bring selections... More

My Melbourne cousins took me to the Oriental Tea House on Chapel Street for lunch on a very hot Sunday. We were all very hungover and fast and delicious yum cha with a wondrous selection of fine teas was the perfect solution to our woes. It's fabulous not having to think to much as the food comes to your table... More

I remembered eating here a couple of years ago last time I came to Melbourne and this visit did not disappoint either. I went to lunch with a friend. Food is served yum cha style but the offering is a little different to other yum cha restaurants that I have been to. Food was delicious. Service was good, probably a... More

Dined at the Chapel Street oriental tea house on Saturday night, having been several times before and always found it consistently good. This time we opted for a set dinner banquet which represented good value and took the challenge out of picking from the extensive menu. To say the food arrived with lightening speed would be an understatement. We told... More

We visited the Chapel Street, South Yarra Oriental Teahouse on Saturday, 28 April, 2012 ... and again on Monday, 30 April, 2012! On a weekend visit to Melbourne, we were wandering around Chapel Street and found the Oriental Teahouse - and we're glad we did! A busy, buzzy place - the service was great, the yum cha dumplings delicious and... More

Great food and variety. Great price!! Everything came to the table quickly. Except drinks. Very slow. Same for the tables around us.
