This is a quaint restaurant on the edge of the City of Melbourne. It is open for lunch and dinner all days except Monday. The restaurant is dark and quiet and has a few different sections to sit so you get a very cosy and private feel when dining. I had a selection of chicken skewers with rice and my... More

What a great find! This is probably the best and most authentic Japanese I've had outside Japan. Beautiful, crispy tempura that was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for a traditional restaurant experience.

This place is tucked away in Parkville, and isn't anything special to look at from the outside. However, the people who run it are lovely and welcoming, and the food is very good - the miso eggplant is the best I have tasted! We had a really nice evening there and felt the prices were very reasonable for good food.

Our family used to come here a lot many years ago, as it was worth the drive across town. For some reason I hadn't thought of Akita for about 8 years, when I found myself drinking beer in a pub across the road. It was dinner time and I was with a friend who had never experienced good Japanese cuisine,... More

The food was very delicious and came quickly, but the wait staff had no clue about the food and when asked a question had to clarify with another staff member. Our waitress only asked 2 out of the 6 in our party if they would like a drink. Does not do split bill.

Two couples on a week-night, so it was a bit quiet. However the food was really excellent, and the service was adequate - certainly not over-attentive as others have experienced. The nasu dengaku (roasted eggplant halves with miso paste) was equal to the best I've ever had. The sushi master seemed to know his stuff. Other favorites were also excellent... More

We are regulars to Akita from the days of its ptevious owner, we are there almost every week. The food is good, fresh sashimi and the usual favourites. Also new nice dishes. Slightly more than a year later, the service needs further fine tuning. One would think it makes good business sense to keep the regular customers coming in? Anyway,... More

Impromptu dinner for 3 Saturday night. Vin and Mrs Merlot have been coming here for 30 years but for an inexplicable reason have not been for a couple of years. More fool us! The quality of the food as others have noted outstanding authentic Japanese of the highest quality. Genuine service and unfailing politeness. Broad range of dishes chosen from... More

As there were no customers. All three waitresses were stood watching us eat so that they could serve us to have something to do. Not very relaxing experience.
