Drinks and Olives - just delightful

Having eaten here some years ago and enjoyed it immensely I was keen to return if at least for a drink. The staff were friendly and attentive and happy to serve us a glass of wine with some absolutely delicious olives. Not cheap but just lovely. Next time we will save up and stay for dinner.

Picture this: Four dedicated francophiles eating dinner at this brasserie for the first time and in the middle of Australian Open madness. Sounds like a recipie for disaster, but no, everything was superb, the food, the service, the atmosphere and the wine list. The French Brasserie is a real find and we'll be going back. It definitely rates up there... More

Had lunch here with a friend for a belated birthday celebration. We both had the express lunch which provided good choice at a reasonable price. This is like dining in a Paris bistro, good food, good service and the owners have captured the feel of an authentic Paris eatery.

We stumbled upon this wonderful restaurant, whilst looking for a pre-Theatre meal. What a pleasant surprise. We did not have a booking, but due to the early time -slot we had no trouble getting a table. Excellent, attentive service, delicious food, and interesting wine list. Our meals were delicious, and seasonal, which is important. We would highly recommend the restaurant.

Having visited France for 5 weeks last year we were missing the French Cuisine so when we discovered this gem we thought we should try it out. The setting is very basic French, crisp white table cloths (actually white paper over white linen) looking very smart with quality glassware and cutlery. Like good French restaurants they had a limited menu... More

Heard of the French Brasserie through friends and we decided to pay a visit. We were not disappointed. Authentic French cuisine with almost exclusively French staff, who were happy to speak to us in either English or French. Lovely atmosphere complemented by French music and soft lighting. The waiting staff were attentive and very pleasant; when my partner and I... More

We wanted to have a nice near the top of Collins Street, this was great. The venue looks the part. The service was steady, the food was great, the steaks are done to your liking and were great. The wine list with many affordable french on the menu was also solid. I recommend this venue for lunch or dinner.

Great location and very welcoming initially. However there seemed to be problems with the service and an extremely long wait for the food. We were offered and should have considered ourselves lucky to have a 2009 Saviingnon Blanc Verdejo! Unfortunately they had 2 new staff on the night in question, one did not know where the lavatories where!! The head... More

so many places today have concrete floors and hard walls and the noise factor is massive. Yes the decor is modern at the french brasserie but it has a great roof space where the noise goes and you can have a enjoyable time with good french wine and food with waitstaff that obviously enjoy working .Big plus!!

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
