The good - location is nice in one of the alleys, restaurant is beautifully set up, staff was warm upon arrival and calamari appetizer was terrific. The not so good - despite restaurant being only one third full the waiter was in a permanent rush, the main courses took forever and were disappointing. Risotto was subpar and the farfalle pasta... Ate there on a Friday. On seating us, and after serving us with water, the waiter noticed there was a baby high chair at the next table. He suggested we might like to move as there was a large party expected with a small baby. We relocated. Menu excellent. It is good to see a menu that doesn't cover every... More

For context, my wife is Italian and from a family that produce wine and run a famous restaurant in Rome. Her aunt, famous for her handmade pasta and cakes, has even trained the chefs of the royal family in Qatar. My wife and I went here for my birthday on the recommendation of someone else but were left very disappointed.... More

Alright folks, if you haven't been here then you are missing out on a true Melbourne gem. I went there with three of my colleagues. The place was pretty busy at 7 pm on a Tuesday evening. Reservations are a good idea if you want to eat here without waiting for a while. We had entrees and mains. All awesome.... More

Went for dinner at Scugnizzo last night. Food presented and cooked to perfection, flavours just amazing. Feels like being in a pocket of Italy. Ambience reflective of this. Staff polite and helpful and head chef authentic and so friendly. Can't wait to go again.

This place has some class, I loved it here. The waiters were helpful and the food delicious. I had the Quail ( they're one of my favorite dishes ) and I wasn't disappointed. I would like to go back one day.

This lovely little restaurant is family owned & has a really lovely atmosphere. The food was absolutely wonderful & quite reasonably priced. If you like Italian food....it certainly is a must....you won't regret it.

We were in Melbourne for weekend and craved some original down to earth Italian. This place has it all and a little more with perfect wines and fantastic service to match. Homemade pastas with unique sauces, a splendid and truly amazing antipasto plate all enjoyed in a family fun and vibrant homely atmosphere. Make it a must!!

After reading the great reviews we thought this would be a great Italian restaurant, well how disappointing where we. No ambiance, the staff hover and ask too many questions and the food was terrible, undercooked pasta, stodgy starchy gnocchi, and when asked how our meal was we said it was average, the owner/chef came over and was aggressive and argumentative.... Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
