Description: Yak Italian Kitchen serves modern italian food on the popular flinders lane...
Yak Italian Kitchen serves modern italian food on the popular flinders lane food precinct and is open for walk-ins and bookings five nights a week until late. Leo Gelsomino, our head chef, and his kitchen team use fresh, seasonal ingredients. All our dishes are hand made in the artisan tradition from pasta to pizza dough, which is kneaded from stone-ground flour. Our drinks list is focused on italian-style wines that are designed to be drunk with food. We have one of the best lists of Italian crafted beers in the city and a vast cocktail menu. First time we have had italian food since visiting Milan last year, stylish restaurant with a nice bar in the middle. Great coffee and very good mains. Myself and my girlfriend had a nice time and would go again for sure. Thank you, Pete

I picked this restaurant as I was going to the Regent theatre and it was close by. The main was nice however nothing rave about. The dessert - Italian donits with Pistachio icecream was devine. Both waiters that seeved me were lovely.

I had a really good coffee here. The orange juice was not good and bore little relationship to the fruit. I asked for croissant with jam. The croissant was good but I would have preferred to apply the jam myself. However, it was a reasonably priced breakfast and worth going for the coffee alone.

An understated restaurant with simple but stylish decor with a central bar. We sat at a window table looking out onto Russell St and Flinders Lane. The pasta dishes were beautifully presented and not a mass of food but ample for an evening meal. The gnocchi was served with caramelised fig and walnut and was excellent, gnocchi can be very... We ordered some take-away pizzas and were astounded at the rudeness of the staff. The pizzas were Italian style, with few toppings and had a thick edge to the crust. They were not cheap, but all in the office found them edible.

Our visit was for a late morning coffee and although the coffee section was near closing at noon the staff were happy to assist and provided a good cup of coffee with friendly service. The restaurant is well fitted out and from all reports does a good job with food--worth a try later.

I had take away pizza and cannelloni from Yak and it was mixed bag. The cannelloni was mush and while tasty, at $24 it was very poor value. It was flat and cheesy and not well flavoured. On the other hand the Diavalo pizza was tasty and spicy and good value. WSould certainly have that again.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
