It feels like I'm in London

A couple of steps down a narrow staircase and you are immersed in an English pub. The place has all the features of your London local; sticky tables, Tetley's on tap, football/cricket from every angle. I love it, what a great place for a cheeky pint!

It was my week in Melbourne and I was insistent on a theme restaurant. Thus, we took turns to out several eateries and finally we selected Sherlock Holmes at Collins Street... and we were sure glad we did. The place was small but cosy, and the food was sumptuous! Must try the Chicken Parmigiana... the melted mozzarella cheese over the... More

Found it by accident and was getting a little warm. Have a great selection of beers (uk and others). I had the potato and bacon salad which was very nice. People very friendly. Definitely worth a stop off on the way.

Melbourne is the home of great Parmigiana. I travel a lot and consistently the best are always in Melbourne. My favourites are here at the Sherlock Holmes. You need to make a reservation - rule one! Its a small underground bar so seating and tables are like winning lotto if you dont have a reservation. "Parmi" choices and general menu... More

I first discovered this little treasure a few years ago. A small establishment with great ambience. Menu was limited but all food served was delicious. I've since been back for a second sitting with other family members.. so that's a recommendation in itself...

What a great find whilst wandering aimlessly in Melbourne As soon as we walked in we knew it would be a treat. The Bar Manager greated us, found us a table and proceeded to let us taste a few beers before we decided on what pint to order The food us classic pub food, at a higher than average level.... More

Really good pub food and great service. Pleasant surroundings, cozy on a cold Melbourne evening. Would recommend.

Hadn't visited the Sherlock Holmes in a while. Dropped in for a pint of cider and ended up having a meal - beef and onion pie was very nice. And served as you expect in a British styled pub - chips and no veges! Still a tasty meal. One to drop into when visiting Melb.

This is a little underground pub. Cosy (read tiny!) so on a busy night it is very noisy and staff are bordering on rude. Having said that it is a great little pub. Food is average but well presented. Very well patronised so expect a big wait at the bar. Very nice wine list.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
