Good no frills Italian food

I have been to the Waiters restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed good quality and tasty Italian food served in no time. I have been to the Waiters restaurant a few times and have always enjoyed good quality and tasty Italian food served in no time. This restaurant is tucked away on one of the many lanes between little Collins and Bourke street in Melbourne and can be easily missed. No grand signage. What a great place to visit and eat, original italian menu, great food and wine, the staff are great the atmosphere is old world, its like stepping back to when you really appreciated a good menu, good surroundings which turn to good food and fun. Well worth a visit and am sure you will return for seconds as I will

Good, honest, wholesome food in a no-frills, retro setting....a "what you see is what you get" restaurant, and all the better for it. Great pasta, crisp garlic bread, a very passable Shiraz in a tumbler, and friendly service....what more could you want? Don't go if you want posh, poncy contemporary food but do go if you appreciate honesty and tradition.

this place reminds me of the original No Names and Bill and Toni's in Sydney. Loud, laminex tables, crusty bread and good servings of honest tasty Italian food. Pasta, veal and schnitzel. All good served quickly with a minimum of fuss. Very limited wine available but the Italian red was good enough for the food. don't go there if you... More

You don't come here for a romantic dinner. You come here for tasty food, laminex table and quick service.

We came here 3 years ago and enjoyed our meals so naturally we had to revisit during our week long stay in Melbourne. This time we made a booking and we're pleased we did as it was very busy on a Thursday night. It's a gem of a place and having returned from a 6 week holiday in Italy we... More

This restaurant has apparently been around for close to 40 years. Based on the decor and furniture, I have no reason to doubt it. It is a fairly small restaurant up a flight of narrow stairs off a back street in the inner city. First impressions are of a crowded, noisy restaurant - but obviously a very popular one. Sentimentality... More

Reliable, good value, and heart, the Waiters is a Melbourne institution. The staff are always busy but helpful. The food is consistent without being outstanding. The wine is....well....quaffable. Recommend a booking for Friday lunch. Otherwise you're usually safe to walk on in...

Situated up a set of old, timber stairs the first impression is one of doubt. But, once inside, the camaraderie of the waitresses, and the boss, is first class, as is the quality and quantity of food. A haunt it seems of nearby public service managers, and city professionals, the restaurant has an old world charm of its own and... More
