We have been here a couple of times since relocating from Melbourne. I am always suspicious of restaurants in tourist precincts as they have the image and shtick but rarely deliver and/or are overpriced. And this is definitely the case here, it like going to Southbank for a meal; only for the uninitiated. There are much better places in Hobart... More

I visited here with friends from interstate. Hot Chocolates are really good. I'm usually a coffee drinker but now whenever visiting Smolt I'll be going the Hot Chocolate. Warm milk poured over good quality chocolate buds. Not too sweet. Every time I visit there is an older lady serving who has the loveliest temperament. Will return.

The worst dinner I had in hobart! We ordered oyster, lamb and seafood linguini . The oyster taste not fresh. The lamb is overcooked. The linguini is the worst. The menu shows it has king prawn and Mussel however can't tell there is any prawn in the dish. The taste is like put overcooked rubber linguini in the salty water. Very... More

Really enjoyed our night here. Great atmosphere, good food, delicious wine and good service. We came on the recommendations from a few different friends- am glad we did!

The food is not good. Duck was dry. Beet root salad was tasteless. We ordered linguini with mussels. We received fettuccini with mussels in a sauce that was bitter. The pasta was too thick to be enjoyable. We had to ask for a bowl for the shells and that exercise took five minutes to even get the attention of a... More

Let me be clear: when I complained about what they had done to my "market fish", they took it off the bill. We visited this restaurant on 7 April for a 7.30 dinner booking. The starter of "ceviche" was surprisingly good: Tassal tuna in a light salad. Why "surprising", because this South American dish normally is served with at least... More

Went to smolt for a lazy Saturday breakfast before hitting the Salamanca market. 4 of us got four beautiful breakfasts. Not one complaint at our table. The breakfast special of potted eggs was to die for. Great toast on the side. The special omelette was also perfectly spiced. Although having to wait a bit for the coffee to arrive, it... More

Food was very good so too was the service. For a hatted restaurant it was keenly priced. Would certainly go back. My only criticism is that it was just a little bit hard to find (which was partially google and apple maps fault) - perhaps the restaurant could have had some more useful directions on the website/at the bottom of... beautifully fresh ceviche, delicious bruny island oysters and the best arancini balls we have ever had! gnocchi was good but the pasta with the mussels was very average, which was a shame as every thing else was fabulous

Just had over cooked and over priced meals at this over rated eatery. The fish of the day meal contained 2 different types of fish that was overcooked and dry. The linguine with mussels, clams and prawns was very ordinary. The linguine was overcooked, tasteless and rubbery. You would need a microscope to find any prawns. As a native of... More
