Great coffee

Didn't have a chance to eat at Smolt on this trip, but called in for coffee and a biscuit and it's a great spot to sit and people watch. Get a window seat.

Not the first time we have dropped into Smolt for breakfast and found both the menu and staff pleasurable. A great spot centrally located to read the paper, people watch and plan out your day from. The menu is varied and not extensive. Great mix of produce and well presented. The coffee here is the best around. A solid performer,... More

Visiting after a recommendation from a friend, we were seated at a large window looking out onto the square, I am a fan of ceramics, so I was straightaway impressed with the beautiful selection of water jugs and plates. The house wine (at $8.50 a glass) is produced by the restaurants own vineyard and is a drop worth trying. The... More

Although a booking was made 4 weeks in advance, we found ourselves at the back of the restaurant in what I can only assume is their "coach" area. One dim light-bulb to light the area made reading the menu quite an experience; watching people at other tables waving their menu around to try and get enough light to read it... More

I had a nouvelle fish stew with two local fish and some calamari and clams. I found the staff attentive, the decor attractive and the meal super.

We had both dinner and breakfast here during our stay in Battery Point. The food on both occasions was absolutely superb. Had the service matched the food I would have happily given a 5 star rating. Unfortunately we were not offered more wine during dinner or dessert at the end. We sat with our empty plates because the staff were... More

We visited with a large group and found the food and service to be exceptional. Due to the size of our group we had a sharing style menu. Often sharing menus can mean you go home hungry but certainly not at Smolt. The food just kept coming and the flavours and freshness proved why Tasmania is so renowned for its... More

Lovely fresh, healthy food in a cool environment in this restaurant situated right in the heart of the dock area. We strongly recommend it as a place to stop off when you are visiting the area.

Stumbled upon this restaurant in the funky area of waterfront Hobart. We were there as a group of 4 girlfriends. We had a delicious meal. The service was good, but we were a bit put off when they told us that we would have to vacate the table for the second sitting. I hate it when restaurants do this without... More

Loved the location and the atmosphere. The food presentation and the staff. Unfortunately the food didn't quite hit the mark. We ordered two entrees to share with wine. The jamon croquettes were very mushy on the inside. The grilled squid was a good idea of a dish but unfortunately it was way too acidic - one of us couldn't even... More
