Fishy feasts off the tourist track

In our previous visits to Hobart we had always thought the city’s best fish and seafood could be found at restaurants clustered around the harbour — Mures Upper Deck and the Drunken Admiral being two cases in point — but no, we were told, the new hot place for a good fish meal in town is up the... read more

Got a take-away fish and chips - Was surprised to see that the take-away is packaged in an open cone and open paper bag. Not great for a take-away as food is then cold by the time you get it home. Ordered tempura flathead fish and chips - Was expecting a piece of tempura fish - Instead received small strips... More

A solo visit to Fish349 on a busy Sunday evening was simply fantastic. Great service with the highlight being when an intuitive young lass noticed I was reading the paper and opened an opposing blind to let better light in, just for me. I was quite touched. The food was excellent. I ordered a Fish349 and chips and did my... More

People.... Seriously it's fish and chips. Over $130 is ridiculous for 4 people. Battered and fried, the chips were barely edible, the fish was passable (but not memorable), overpriced and staff that thought they should have been working somewhere else. The only positive thing I did find was that they were amazingly quick. Have had better at the wharf or... More

Every time we visit Hobart we search for food of good quality, sufficient quantity and delicious flavours. We have found this at Fish 349. So good did we find this restaurant that on our last visit to Hobart, we ate there 5 times and found each dish different and delicious. There is a selection for everyone from fresh fish and... More

Lovely family friendly / casual dining place, with limited parking in North Hobart. Compact menu with loads of great favourites, and blackboard specials (which tend to linger ...). Price is moderate and you can also just pop in for gelato or coffee. Very clean and simple space, this model works so well, it's sure to be there for a while... More

Have dined here a few times but the lunch my girlfriend & I shared last week was truly superb! We ordered the Share Plate For Two from the Specials Board ($21.90) & it was impressive indeed. Garlic & Chilli Prawns, Tempura Calamari w Pickled Chilli & Red Onion, Smoked Tasmanian Salmon Pate on Crispy Wontons...mmmm. Such delicious, fresh tasting samples.... More

Briefly, the food would be rated 6.5-7/10; the service (which is only bringing the food to the table - you have to order at the counter) was 5/10; and the atmosphere/ambiance 3/10. We were looking for a good fish joint. We ordered the platter for two ($58). It was a generous serving but the calamari was chewy though the small... More
