Brilliant 50th birthday dinner

My daughter took me to Monty's for my 50th birthday dinner. The ambience, service and particularly the food was amazing. The kale chips were perfect, the smoked tofu was incredible. The presentation of the food was really good as well. Absolutely loved the whole evening.

We went to Monty's Saturday night for a lovely relaxing night of wine and food with good friends and we were not disappointed. Monty's is a lovely old house which has been restored perfectly giving it lots of charm and character. It is also very cosy with the fire places roaring. There is a great wine list with a good... Good and bad The good: - the food is delicious - the scenery is lovely (particularly the roaring fire) The bad: - the location lets the restaurant down. It is located behind Salamanca Place, up a hill...surrounded by commercial businesses, so there is non walk-up happening. This restaurant would be very busy in a better location...but where it is does... More

We treated ourselves having read previous reviews and were not disappointed. Food fantastic well presented we chose the degustation menu , sharing 4 entreés a main course then desert each a brilliant idea to get a sample of the flavours available .nothing disappointed but the pork bellies/ octopus dish was terrific. Our waiter was efficient and attentive . A great... More

I was lucky enough to have a wonderful birthday dinner here. Food was fabulous great wine list and superb staff. Friendly relaxed fine dining is rare but they succeed on all counts here. Unlimited sparkling water was a treat. Would return anytime I was in Hobart Thank you Monty's

Although only a party of five, we were fortunate enough to be placed in a private room off the main area. Despite being hidden away, we received attentive service throughout the evening. Wait staff were understanding when a couple in our party were late due to a delayed plane. They served us some snacks and we all ordered the set... More

We had dined here based on friends' recommendations and planned for it to our nicest dinner of the trip. Unfortunately, we left disappointed and feeling a bit ripped off. The restaurant itself is nice - located in what looks to be an historic house, fireplaces inside, simple decor with wooden tables and chairs - however the food lets the place... More

We visited Monty's without booking, as we did not fancy the loud overcrowded places on Salamanca on a Saturday night. We were very lucky as they had a cancellation and fitted us in, but it was full otherwise, so booking is recommended. As it turns out, we made the best decision because the welcome was warm, the service was really... More

Booked hear before we left for our stay on Hobart. Booking was done on line easily, and followed up with a confirmation sms the day before. We stayed at Hotel Grand Chancellor which was a pleasant 15 minute walk away, even in the cold evening. When we arrived we had warmed up from our walk, so were a little taken... More

From all the trip advisor reviews I was so looking forward to Montys. I think the food was very good but not amazing. The venue lacked any atmosphere and seemed strangely decorated. We sat opposite a decorative open fireplace and wished it was on as the venue was cold. The service was pretty unimpressive and we were often having to... More
