Good Food, Ambience and Location

Just a few blocks up from the Salamanca Market is a great little restaurant in a classy little old house. The rooms are all separate dining areas, so that keeps the noise down...and that allows for quiet conversations in a restaurant that gives off a nice vibe. The service was excellent... read more

Went for the 'you decide' option. A bit of everything- quality food, thoughtfully prepared and great flavours... The textures, range and quantity of food surpassed expectations. I eat out a lot and this meal is the best that I can remember in well over a year. Had previous experience here that was not remarkable a few years back, and tonights... More

My heart sank when I saw the menu as I didn't fancy most of the things on it! Anyway I had the salmon trout and it was extraordinary. The service was first class. My partner had pork belly with chorizo and squid and he was in heaven. The tart tatin was blissful and cheese wonderful. A real gem!

Service, food, ambiance all wonderful. Could eat everything on menu. A fine dinning standard. Don't forget to book.

We had a 4 day, extra-long weekend in Hobart principally to visit MONA. Luckily I booked Monty’s well in advance. On the Saturday night they were totally booked out, Diners had even accepted bookings as late as 9:30 pm, as a party left, the table would be re set and a few minutes late a new set of diners would... The restaurant consists of a series of connecting rooms in a house just up from the Salamanker precinct. There was also a small outside eating area. The Menu is mainly a selection of sharing plates that were delicious. However if you want vegetables with the main plates they are found in the starter small plates section. The beer, win and... Five of us enjoyed a "Trust the Chef" type dinner and all of us enjoyed it. Portion size all ok apart from the fish dish during the smaller plates/entree's, but we were given a complimentary main dish to compensate. Nice touch! Every single dish was deliciously tasty and cooked perfectly, especially the mushrooms. Nice setting, especially if you are seated... More

So maybe we shouldn't have gone for the degustation menu with matching local wine selection, but it was our very last night in Tasmania and we wanted to indulge. Thankfully we were able to get a last-minute dinner reservation here. The staff were very attentive and even accommodated one of our diners' allergies. It was a most memorable meal made... More

Hits all the marks. Great (really great ) food, terrific laid back but stylish ambience, attentive service.

Five of us shared lots of little plates as suggested by wait staff. That was a mistake - too many flavours/textures which clashed. Better to share a multiple of a few. Food is well done, but wonder if price would have to drop if there was more competition. Desserts ho hum. Good wine list. Those who'd been bushwalking for a... More
