I go every week at least once for a morning coffee or for lunch - so this tells you that Retro is a reliable place. They have daily specials for breakfast and lunch, and these are always good , as well as some inexpensive things you can have such as toasted sandwiches, nachos etc . Great spot on... read more

I first went to the Retro Cafe over 10 years ago as a guest of two friends that I visited in Hobart. They took me the Saturday Salamanca market, a Hobart institution, and we had brunch at the Retro Cafe. The memory of that visit has stayed with me and I have gone back every year since. Two years ago... More

This is a great spot to people watch & enjoy breakfast or lunch or just coffee. The Afghan biscuits are delicious.

Avoid this place like the plague. All they have going for them is a retro vibe and good coffee. The staff are uninterested at best and dismissive at worst. Most of the ordering is done by an old gentleman who is extremely slow...the younger staff are not much faster. Had to wait at least 10 minutes before my coffee order... More

Great coffee with exceptional service and the food is really good. In the midst of Salamanca Place, you can sit here and enjoy the passing parade of people enjoying Hobart. A really good, interesting place.

As soon as my husband I peeked into this restaurant for breakfast while walking thru the Salemanca fair on Sat., we knew this was the one. Small and funky place w/great food. I had mushrooms on toast (yummy) and fabulous banana bread, lightly toasted and perfect in every way. My husband had eggs, wonderful wholegrain toast, and roasted tomatoes. Every... More

Went to have some brunch after seeing this place whilst walking near Salamanca Sq. Our waitress appeared largely uninterested in taking our order. 25 mins on and we were still waiting for our coffee and had to remind them. Following this, there was another wait of 15 mins to get food. I ordered bacon and eggs and there wasn't much... More

We have just spent three days in Hobart and decided on this little cafe for breakfast based on fellow Tripadvisor reviews. Being a vegetarian and soy coffee devotee I didn't have any trouble ordering and enjoying a fab breakfast. The mushrooms on sour dough was just delicious and the coffee great. Husband had the salmon on a bagel and also... More

We went to Retro Cafe over some of the others in the area because they had options on their brunch menu that didn't include eggs and dairy, as I can't eat either of these. We had the Huon Valley mushrooms on grain toast with bacon - all I can say is YUM. Staff were efficient and friendly.
