Very popular meat restaurant in one of the old convict sandstone buildings. It is a big restaurant but still has atmosphere. Obviously they specialise in all things beef cooked on a charcoal grill. But there are other alternatives such as chicken and fish which is just as good. The free salad bar is a nice touch. If you can save... More

Recommended by locals and tourists, we really enjoyed the great quality food in Hobart. Oysters and steak very nice. I recommended to other visitors and they also have not been disappointed. Lots of bars and other nice restaurants nearby but this was great for the steaks.

Definitely don't visit if you want a quiet intimate dinner, this restaurant located at Salamanca is busy and large but we had a great meal. We hadn't booked ahead on a Saturday night but only had a 15 minute wait for a table of two, able to enjoy a drink at the bar during that time. The menu was extensive... More

We had an evening meal here on our last night in Hobart. My partner had the steak and I had the pork. Both were cooked to perfection, and we loved the salad bar that you can help yourself to. Toberlone cheesecake was for desert and was it delicious! Great and friendly staff, will defiantly go here again.

I went to this restaurant with a group on a business trip. The steak was great and that was a consistent view of those in the group. Salads were also nice and desert great. The old style building in the Salamanca area made it a great night all round.

Nothing was wrong with this restaurant at all .... Fact! Service was great, wine choice was comprehensive and the food was simply stunning. A very busy restaurant but unlike many other restaurants we have dined at they made sure there was enough staff to cope and give everybody the attention they deserved. Enjoyed our evening very much, well done Ball... More

We recently had a mini holiday in Tassie and we had a booking for dinner at The Ball and Chain in Salamanca and, if I hadn’t started eating meat a few months ago, I would have been in trouble! They had a wonderful salad bar and the rest of the table had several entrées to share including some mixed sausages... More

I had the steak medium with the steak sauce and black pepper sauce of course and the way it was presented and tasted was excellent! You could choose your own salad and also order some side dishes. It came to be a bit pricy but overall I highly recommend this restaurant for steak lovers visiting Hobart.

I have dined here for many years whenever I come to Hobart for business. I ate here tonight and ordered a porterhouse medium-well, which was so juicy, tender and flavorsome! The salad bar is great and you can go back as many times as you like. The staff are lovely and the restaurant is very cosy, I feel comfortable dining... More
