No visit to Hobart is complete without a visit to the Ball & Chain. It's not fancy, but the steaks are terrific and the service great (thanks to the wonderful leadership of hotel manager Craig). Help yourself to the salad bar and settle in..

My only complaint was the size of the serves and being unable to get a half serve any of the dishes. Knowing that I would be ordering food to be thrown away took the shine off the evening. The food was well cooked and we all enjoyed our various options.

Very disappointing with on the verge of the food being classified as "Bad Food" and a basic salad bar - if there is a Sizzler in Hobart we would have been better off going there. We walked out after attempting to eat the main meal and went next door for desert and coffee.Should have gone there to start with.

Went with the family, it's nice enough but the main servings aren't anything great. It's a piece of meat and a potato which you're to prop up with a DIY salad from the salad bar. Maybe I ordered the wrong piece of $30++ meat. It's all grilled though and cooked well. Wife's 200 gram steak might have been that before... More

Ate here recently and ordered a steak medium/rare. It was incredibly rare and also quite small when you looked at how much the steak dish was - about $26. There is an all you can eat salad buffet, but the options are fairly basic - coleslaw, cucumber, potato salad, etc. The place is a beautiful old building setting, but would... More

Numerous friends had advised us to try this restaurant so we saved it for a special anniversary. We could not have been more delighted. The tasting plate entree was excellent, why can't it be served as a main course? Our steaks were fresh, juicy and cooked as requested but the salad selection was poor in comparison. The steaks were on... More

This place has good meat! But ..... That is about all. Just way to average for the prices! I guess that is what you get at a tourist place.

My husband and I fancied a char grilled steak and were served flavorless pale insipid meat. We were offered garlic butter and sauces to camouflage the poor quality. Incorrect wine was served. Awful place! Don't go there. Denise

I'm totally astonished that anyone could seriously think the Ball & Chain provide a delicious steak experience. My wife and I fancied a steak last night on a chilly Hobart winter night. The char grill looked tempting... but that was most certainly the last tempting thing we saw that night. As soon as the steaks arrived they look oddly pale... More

Had dinner here with family on a very busy Saturday night. We had a booking so did not need to queue up. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly and there were no problems with special requests or minor changes to the menu. The steaks come in three different sizes, small (180gms), medium (300gms), and large (500gms). I ordered a medium... More
