Best steak in a long time

My partner & I both had steaks & both were cooked perfectly to order; medium & medium rare & both "melt in the mouth". Salad bar was great & good wine list, although perhaps more Tassie wines would have been nice. It was busy but that created a lively atmosphere & the service was good & very... read more

We have dined at Ball and Chain Grill in Hobart over many trips to Hobart. We like to eat early so with 5.30pm opening it suits us. I had Lamb Shanks which were beautifully cooked.

Whilst 3 out of 4 dishes tonight were ok, I went for the steak which was a let down. I would rate at only one star if it was only based on my meal. My scotch fillet was very thin and of no better quality than the local supermarket...I'm sure the website did say it was quality local produce. For... More

The food was good. Nice variety not a long wait to be served. A big resturant but run well. 3rd time visiting and consistent. Nothing at all to complain about or rave about ... Will revisit 😊

Very ordinary and overpriced. My girlfriend ordered the salmon and it was smothered in a thick 1970's style inedible bright yellow sauce. The salmon itself was tasteless. I ordered the eye filet - great cut of meat but also tasteless. Salad bar was straight out of an 80's Sizzler. The restaurant decor and ambience retains its 1970's essence in its... More

I'm not a meat eater so going to a steak restaurant is a fairly big deal, so vegetarians be warned - there is only one veggie dish on the menu. We order a eye fillet steak and a grilled chicken breast. I never thought I'd say this, but I preferred the steak. The steak was nice and tender, the chicken... More

Warm service, great steak served quickly. Only complaint was they totally forgot my hot chocolate with desert. It always leaves me feeling let down when a menu item is completely forgotten. The long anxious wait while desert slowly dwindles. Very disappointing

We were asked how we wanted our steak it came over done, fish was also over done, first waitress did not want to be there but second was good. Over priced for what you get but it is a tourist spot

In March 2015 we spent three days touring Tasmania. During our travels we stayed in the beautiful capital of Hobart. The best dinner we had while on the island was at the Ball and Chain in Salmanca Place. Salmanca Place is a restored warehouse district and is full of restaurants and pubs. It is also very convenient to Hobart's harbor.... More
