Great staff with loads of knowledge. Happy to stop and talk to you like a human being. We did the 6 course which was just right. Didn't feel too full which is usually what happens to us when doing a number of courses. The bartender downstairs was so helpful and gave us so many great tips. We even bumped in... More

Degustation?... maybe, or is this eatery in fact an expensive joke by someone with a penchant for taking the piss, you know, the sort of thing Woody Allen does on occasions extremely well. The check-list: Expensive prices that demand absolutely nothing less than food to die for, but sadly each course was not only microscopic (yes truly microscopic), but even... More

Extremely disappointing! Tasteless - and a joke. A poor man's idea of degustation. The staff had unfortunate 'cafe attitude' the wines were sadly lacking. No ambiance.

I love what this place stands for. There's passion, heart and a sustainable spirit behind the menu - and it was clear the staff share it too. Earthy, interesting and unpretentious - the food was hearty, wholesome and delicious. We asked not be seated in the big echoey room when we made a reservation, but still were - and one... More

Without doubt one of the best, if not the best meal I've had in Hobart. Fixed price menu, and we went with the six course menu, with just a glass or two to see us through. Small portions, and while elaborate they all worked, beautifully. The wait staff were great - enthusiastic, knowlegeable, attentive but not intrusive. And the restaurant... More

Being Hobart locals and hearing the hype of Ethos sadly we walked away feeling ripped off and still hungry. We chose the degustation with matching wines. When being seated we were given the list of ingredients to be served that evening, which included pork and venison.....sadly neither of these appeared, with no explanation. We sat waiting and hoping that the... More

We hadn't booked and turned up after it was recommended to us. I was a little worried we may look too casual but when we asked the team if we could have a table for dinner they were so friendly and laid-back I was immediately put at ease. The interior is worth a quick mention, it is beautiful and quirky... More

Recommended as the locals fav, we had to- and my word, what an experience. Cellar-like seating, small plates, local wines. The menu is a daily changing degustation comprised of ~12 local ingredients, sit back and enjoy!

Serving this type of innovative food is challenging for both the restauranteur and the consumer. This is about taste and the balance of flavours. The preparation would be a dedication in itself. This is definitely a foodie restuarant, you should go will a willingness to savour what is presented. The staff are very freindly and well versed in the menu.... More

We went to Ethos on our second night in Hobart with some trepidation after trying and been disappointed with another highly recommended Hobart restaurant the night before. Our fears were totally unnecessary - it was the best meal we have had for quite a long while. The food was innovative, creative, challenging, interesting and superb. The waitstaff told us the...
