Great food and wine at a price

Recent reviews suggested that this restaurant might be inconsistent and this had made us a bit apprehensive. We came as a couple on a busy Saturday night and found the food and service to be exemplary. The ambience lacked the romaric intimacy one might hope for in a upper end restaurant. As... read more

Had a fantastic night at Ethos. Walking in past all the garden beds of fresh herbs and veg sets the scene for an evening of produce driven food. We were warmly greeted on arrival, promptly seated, menu'd up and first drink order taken within a matter of minutes. We chose the 6 course degustation without the wine matching. The service... We returned to celebrate a birthday after having a seriously good dining experience here in 2013. The experience last night did not even approach underwhelming ... at their suggestion we put ourselves in their hands for a degustation menu with wine matching. While the food was fine, interesting and had the local sourced schtick going, the portions were so ridiculously... More

We do a lot of degustations but the team at Ethos still managed to blow our mind. Everything was excellent. The ambience and character of the dining room is great. The staff were excellent without being overly formal. And the food and wine was world class. The menu was very creative and clearly designed to showcase the fresh local produce.... More

Ethos seems to be a place you either love or loathe. If you love a tasting menu of exquisite food you will love it. If love big plates of pedestrian food you'll loathe it. I would come back here again just for the sourdough with house-churned butter and potato starch salt. The providence is cashed-up Greens-style eating - after all... More

Ate recently at Ethos and chose the 5 course degistation which was VERY disappointing . First course was a few cherry tomatoes with a small blob of 'house-made soft cheese and a speck of basil oil and so it went with a series of meagre, unimaginative dishes that could be easily made by a home cook ( dashi broth with... Ok, let's set the scene .. I was a walk in .. Tired, and by myself. It made no difference to the people at Ethos, I was seated, made a fuss of beautifully and made to feel special. Lovely food was suggested for me and indeed it was delicious. The decor is quirky and in keeping with the place that... More

In contrast to some of the recent reviews, we had an amazing experience at Ethos. The setting was wonderful - you walk off a hum drum downtown street into what could almost be a farm building. It is rustic and elegant. The serving staff were consistently friendly and knowledgable. The kitchen was doing a great job. The dishes were really... More

Wanted an amazing experience for my birthday. It certainly was an interesting one. We got presented with a 1/2 radish initially which was an interesting touch! We must try that for cheap canapés! A palate warmer maybe ? The initial dish was lovely but a v measly amount. There were too many white wines I felt - I understand the... More

I had to wait a week to write this review as I thought that it could be unfair to do so immediately after the event. Time hasn't healed. Having enjoyed degustation recently at Hentley Farm (SA) we four (two couples) were very much looking forward to our Ethos experience. Our primary waiter (Mr. Encyclopedia) explained the "ethos" of the experience,... More
