Being Hobart locals and hearing the hype of Ethos sadly we walked away feeling ripped off and still hungry. We chose the degustation with matching wines. When being seated we were given the list of ingredients to be served that evening, which included pork and venison.....sadly neither of these appeared, with no explanation. We sat waiting and hoping that the... More

We hadn't booked and turned up after it was recommended to us. I was a little worried we may look too casual but when we asked the team if we could have a table for dinner they were so friendly and laid-back I was immediately put at ease. The interior is worth a quick mention, it is beautiful and quirky... More

Recommended as the locals fav, we had to- and my word, what an experience. Cellar-like seating, small plates, local wines. The menu is a daily changing degustation comprised of ~12 local ingredients, sit back and enjoy!

Serving this type of innovative food is challenging for both the restauranteur and the consumer. This is about taste and the balance of flavours. The preparation would be a dedication in itself. This is definitely a foodie restuarant, you should go will a willingness to savour what is presented. The staff are very freindly and well versed in the menu.... More

We went to Ethos on our second night in Hobart with some trepidation after trying and been disappointed with another highly recommended Hobart restaurant the night before. Our fears were totally unnecessary - it was the best meal we have had for quite a long while. The food was innovative, creative, challenging, interesting and superb. The waitstaff told us the... Making a booking during the June long weekend was certainly difficult. Was offered a last minute booking the same afternoon, and I informed them of a pescatarian in a party of 4. I was ensure that they could definitely cater for that and a few other patrons have the same request. Arrival at the restaurant through a brick lane there's... More

This is a real quirky restaurant, with many options. Went with friends who had been before. Our waiter advised he would choose part of our meal and we could choose the rest. I did say it was quirky! Great to try food you wouldn't normally order. And it was all delicious. The waiter was fantastic. The setting is a superb... More

We have enjoyed many fine degustation dinners. Unfortunately at Ethos it was spelt with an i. When the dishes are long on explanation but short on edibility you know you are in trouble. Long on wank but short on delicious, the courses ranged from a single raw radish, "grown on the south side of the hill facing the river" to... More

We were told that we must eat here when in Hobart and we are so glad we made the effort to go. The concept of only being able to say which ingredients you don't want to eat was genius. We tried good we would normally never pick and it was amazing. Best Kale I have ever tasted. It's a must... More
