Relaxed place, great service, good food.

We went here for our 12th wedding anniversary and had a really nice night. The food was good, almost but not quite great, some really really good courses, but others just good. Our sommelier was excellent, service overall very good, and we really enjoyed the night. Highly recommended.

Not enough food and to be honest a try hard kind of place. With some of be best produce in Australia how can you serve this up. Service was awful, toilets were disgusting. I can't see this one surviving. It was half full on one of the busiest weekends I can see why.

Ok, so i booked this restaurant for my mum and dad and i had read some great reviews on the food before i left. What i didn't read was that it was a set menu and we weren't allowed to know what we were eating until it arrived. Now this experience doesn't suit everyone. Some people like to know what... More

We've given this review quite a lot of thought because of the price and overall hype surrounding this restaurant. There were some really good aspects (decor, wines, cheese, breads) but bottom line - we came away angry with the unbelievable pretentiousness and lack of real cooking skill. Firstly most of it was pre-prepared. Amuse bouche to die for. A microscopic... More

Each dish was clever and tasty. I especially loved the slow-roasted celeriac which as a totally new taste sensation to me. I appreciate the trouble they go to with the provenance aspects.

What to say about Ethos? Iain Todd and his team present a 6 course meal, prix fixe at $95 striving to use fresh, local Tasmanian produce in imaginative ways. Down a laneway on Elizabeth Street lies an old, restored heritage listed building. But how is the food? First impressions were mixed. Onion. A lot of it. Pickled, mustard greens. Hmm...... More

I have never walked out of a restaurant until ethos. Pretentious and shameful food to serve at any price tag. Unembellished raw beefheart. Awful taste but we come with an open mind. Cold broccoli soup with hard boiled quail egg and a lump of butter in the centre that had no hope of melting. Ok we will give them the... More

Everything was perfect in our experience of Ethos. From the charming little cottage garden you walk through, past the smoker, to the front door, to a comfortable and intriguing interior. It is a degustation, so don't expect anything more than tastes of each course. Flavours and presentation of each dish was superb. The wait staff gave really good explanations for... More

This place was very over priced for the 6 course degustation we had. One of the courses was a mere potato salad you can buy at Woolworths. The fish main was raw and very unappealing. The one positive of the meal was the first course which was squid inked noodles in a sesame oil and chicken consume. One of the... More
